The Vietnam War was lost because there was NEVER anything to be won in the first place.
It was ill-conceived, ill-managed, and typical of the asinine wars of choice we involve ourselves in due to the delusional thinking that the world should conform to our image of it.
May LBJ, McNamara, and Nixon share their own special circle of hell.
Fact is the men did not die in vain. They fought a war that you and others refused to back but yet it was OK when Kerry smeared our soldiers and Hanoi Jane sympathized with the enemy. Go burn an American flag and get it over with.

They fought a war started for NO good reason and created NOTHING beneficial to the US. The men who fought were honorable for answering their nation's call, their nation's call was anything but honorable.

Oh gee, next we'll probably hear that old chestnut "America, love it or leave it!" BS
Well screw that, sensible people will stay and fix it.
The Vietnam war was lost because of Jane Fonda giving hope to our enemies. The Vietcong were loving it when they sympathized with them over and over. The college kids were lead by the communists to hate the America soldier. The spirit to the American soldier was hate for them in the 70's. They were not welcomed back after the war. Many American soldiers felt abused and hated. They did not back them at all for their service because of Jane Fonda and John Kerry's comments. They led the propaganda against our soldiers who served bravely against the spread of communism.
I was a tad older than college kids. Nobody was taught to hate American soldiers. Though a few did did.
At the time I was almost a Bircher. The Communists had nothing to do with me opposing the Viet Nam war.
It was a lost cause from the start. Do you remember Barry Goldwater saying drive it or park it i Viet Nam? He also said from the kill reports we could have killed every man woman and child in Viet Nam, twice. He also said for what we were spending to fight that war we could have bought the place.
Who the hell cares what Jane Fonda thought 50 years ago. She has apologized.
Have you ever changed your mind when you got more information?
What we have inherited from her behavior is a celebrity community some of whose members presume, apparently, that their popularity qualifies them to opine on matters far beyond their ken.
The opposition to the war can be easily understood, however, she went out of her way to be a mouthpiece for the North Vietnamese.
That alone separates her from the genuine anti-war folks.
That is the difference. She is not an honorable person.
Little known factoid..Ho Chi Minh helped the US during WWII by working with the OSS to return downed pilots to their countries--he received a letter of commendation for it.
He stated in his diary that he was perplexed he was fighting the US--since all he wanted for his country was the right to self-determination..the same thing that the colonists wanted during the Revolutionary war.
We picked the wrong side, that time.
Isn't there some hypocrisy in claiming self-determination while seeking to conquer your weaker neighbor to the south?
North Vietnam incorrectly saw us as a colonial power seeking to subjugate them like France, Japan, or China.
The US incorrectly saw this war as an extension of the Cold War with the North as pawns of the Soviets and Chinese.
Neither side put themselves in the shoes of the other.
