Actually, an Assistant Attorney General in the NYSD raised the question as to why nothing was being done 4 weeks after being discovered. Suppressing that official request would have caused even a bigger firestorm if it was discovered that AAG's request was purposefully ignored. Comey was then pressed into action because of it which he didn't mind since it was so close to the election and it seemed Clinton's win was irreversible. Remember, there were hundreds of thousands of emails on that laptop.
No doubt, if nothing was done, it would have leaked. And rightfully so.
I don’t believe nothing was being done privately, publicly is another story.
The FBI and DoJ couldn't indict Hillary because it would be revealed that Obama had lied when he said he didn't know she had an unsecured email server and was using public email to transmit classified information to the President while she was traveling to countries known to monitor American communication. We had a president transmitting classified information with no protection!
Yet the Loonies call Trump stupid? He is smart enough not to use any email because he knows he's being spied on by foreign and domestic enemies. He uses the more secure, old fashioned way of sending information, -- by courier.
And he uses an unsecure phone. Yeah, he's brilliant.
My hunch is that will be the only thing that Mueller gets Trump on, obstruction. And it was self-inflicted.
That's going to be really tough because Mueller would have to send his report to Rosenstein who's the one who advised Trump to fire Comey in the first place.
