Folks with a dictatorial mindset NEVER want their people to see other countries for that very reason. When everywhere else is "inferior to where you are", you've no reason to expect more than what you already have - even if what you have stinks.

Maybe Boris Johnson will Make England Great Again. For now, I'll stay away until they get their sh together. just like San Francisco and San Diego and many other areas who offer open borders to rapists, thieves, and gangs. I'll wait until we have real leadership.
I was in London three years ago and it was perfectly fine. Maybe things have changed since then, I don't know. I felt absolutely safe in various parts of the city (mostly the touristy areas but we were staying by the ExCeL convention center, so we took the Tube pretty far and never had a problem at all. I traveled with my son, who was a teenager at the time, but I was also alone at times while he was busy with activities at the convention center.

Yes, I saw women wearing hijab and some with veils, and I saw men wearing clothing that I have not seen here in the USA. I was mildly curious about it but not afraid. Nobody said or did anything alarming that I saw. I think that some people who have not seen these things before might feel alarmed and threatened; I have had quite a bit of exposure to people of other religions and have had discussions about why and when hijab is worn, so I don't find it worrisome in the slightest. I think that more education about things Americans tend to find scary in their foreignness would probably be helpful.

I have family in various parts of Germany (large cities) and none have mentioned any issues. A couple are young women and they go out during the day and at night without issue. My son was also in Berlin with friends last spring and had/saw no problems at all. They went out to clubs and such, so they were out late at night. Granted, they were a group of 18- to 22-year-old young men, so much less likely than a woman or a group of women to be approached by anyone with sinister intent.

Of course its BS. Americans are willing to believe just about anything.

Yeah, Conservative are cowards. They are afraid of everyone. That's WHY they cling to their guns.

It's not the cultural differences, that's why we travel. It's the fact that there are an abundance of immigrants who reside on the streets desperate and lonely and people in that state of mind are naturally apt do anything. Another issue facing travelers is the world is full of terrorists, more than we've ever seen. This is nothing against other cultures, it's simply common sense to be alert to the current world situation.

We didn't really have to worry about some of these things in the past. I'm just glad I got to see it before the transition.

But, anyone who says they visit Europe regularly and can't detect a PALPABLE change in European capitals over the past ten years alone in terms of visible presence of hijabs and burkas in the streets, and large gatherings of Middle Easterners and Africans is a flat out liar. Especially in large cities.

What's interesting now, of course, is that WITHOUT the "New Europeans" and "Migrants" and "Refugees," Europe would be even MORE safe than it is now. By quite a bit.

Prototypical contemporary (Western) Europeans have convinced themselves that cheap labor and kebab shops are sufficient benefits of mass migration to put up with the costs. Such costs include excess crime across all categories, rapid mosque construction and their eventual demographic replacement. They don't have kids anymore, so "their kids future and the world they will inherit" isn't really an issue for them. (See childless leaders like Merkel and Macron being some of the biggest proponents of open immigration).

The average western European appears to have embraced the secular religion of "multiculturalism" and have definitely decided that the increase in crime is an OK trade-off.

Look on this thread. They've now retreated to comforting themselves with the fact of, "Well, the US is still more dangerous..." while seemingly oblivious to the fact that much of the violence and crime in the US can be traced back to the failures of multicultural integration, ghettoization, gangs, etc. Things the Europeans are only just now starting to experience in real terms while the Americans have dealt with it for decades. Things haven't even yet BEGUN to reach any sort of critical mass in Europe.

So, "I don't see it, so I'm OK," the Europeans say. "You're exaggerating!" they exclaim, as 1000+ women are sexually assaulted in one night in Germany. "Our European values demand we let everyone in!" they say.

I mean, I suppose there's a limit SOMEWHERE to the cost Europeans are willing to pay. But what is the limit? How many European girls are allowed to be groomed in exchange for the thrill of more food options? Can 100 additional girls be raped by migrants ... but 101 be the straw that breaks the camel's back?

How many more young boys can be sodomized in public swimming pools by the "New Europeans" before the "Old Europeans" decide the benefits of this current suicidal multiculturalism/immigrant fetish might not be worth it? Europeans haven't figured that out yet. So as long as it's "other people" bearing the negative side effects, those unaffected are free to applaud loud and clear.

In many ways this mirrors the American's conversation about the costs and benefits of illegal immigration from south and central America. Only in Europe, the opposition is not nearly as strong.
Pretty good analysis.

And yet, at least from some of your previous posts, you have been a big support of Israel

It's telling you didn't even know what country you were in.

One is more at risk in America than Europe. Especially gun violence. America is a violent place. Your friends and clients do not know what they speak. I have also seen the obnoxious American on my travels abroad. I am appalled by the behavior of some of these people. Class is clearly not something everyone possesses.

For all that are concerned, easy solution: stay out. That way I might get a reasonable air fare for a change, lol. Thank you.
