Thats only because WE have allowed it to happen, the blame is squarely on us imo. People long ago should have stood up and fought back and we would not be having these kinds of discussions today...but just like today, so many people are overly concerned with their own lives, they want to avoid arrest, jail, etc, so they just 'go along to get along'.

Guess you missed the fact that your excerpt has NOTHING to do with the original general claim that "guns make people safer."

If everyone were armed, no cowards would walk among us.

What about those of us who don't want to be armed?

Thankfully there will always be enough people who do choose to be armed and who will stand up and fight back if govt tries to take our rights away, so even if you do not want to carry or own guns, you still benefit.

Civilian ARs aren't designed for the military.

I pretty well ignore all the comments that are repeated ad nauseam as if repetition somehow works for other than school kids learning their ABCs, and because they are so prevalent, I generally ignore gun threads altogether as a rule anymore. That said, I dabbled a bit with this one, and this comment is a little unique in terms of yet another notion that [government] "convinced a majority, they don't need to be armed."

That's not the case at all...

Might be a good many people are just not into guns for starters, largely because they are not hunters or marksman or collectors or enthusiasts in general. I'm quite sure that's the case for the majority of Americans. Then too there are those who no longer fancy the notion that we civilians with guns represent any sort of "freedom force" that SOME gun enthusiasts fancy themselves as.

Not a case of government brainwashing in any case, but again that notion is clearly part of the narrative that rings true for you and many like you who just can't see it any other way. The facts remain the facts nevertheless, and although the 2A is written plainly enough, and although Americans continue to have their right to bear arms (as some 300 million guns tends to prove), the reason a majority of Americans aren't going on about this all the time like you do is not for the reasons you believe and want everyone else to believe.

Well if we ARE going to pretend...

I'm pretty sure if/when this day comes that you envision, and if all manner of controlling our water and food distribution, transportation and communications is somehow not the key factor that determines our fate, you 3% super gun owners who own half the guns in the United States will be quick to distribute those guns to everyone across the U.S. who will take up arms against our own military and/or invading force that took out our own military. Can you maybe stock up on some tanks, jets and all the rest our military has at their disposal as well, because I'm not sure even all your guns and ammo are going to be quite enough. Just saying.
