Congress gets paid during a shutdown. Congress usually votes to give furloughed employees back pay.
If Trump caused a shutdown and then went to Maralago to party, he would strongly resemble Nero fiddling while Rome burned. A little dramatic, but I'm fairly certain that is the take the country would have.

Well he ain't having it! And that cost effective argument is absurd! There are more cost effective ways of preventing illegals from coming to the country - try better interior enforcement to avoid more visa overstays or increasing the # of immigration courts to handle over 700K cases in the backlog!
A wall is absolutely NOT cost effective but it seems to be the only thing Trumpsters understand because it's not an idea, concept or policy but something tangible.
Unbelievable that you lefty liberals are still spouting this nonsense in here day after day after day. I have provided many links proving how the good walls do work and no, there is not better way to deter illegal entry than by a wall. The wall isn't about visa over stayers, duh. However, that problem needs to be addressed also. Even the DHS has said that they need the walls so the Border Patrol can do their jobs more effectively. Do you know better than them?
I have also asked why you guys would want to continue to pay the over $100 billion a year that illegals cost us rather than a one time cost of $25 billion for the wall. That's not being cost effective?
Of course we need more interior enforcement but what has that to do with securing our border to prevent more illegals from getting in. Better to deter them at the border than to allow them to get in here where they are much harder to weed out and more expensive to do so.

Blame Congress. Republicans controlled it till the last mid-term election. Why didn't Trump get it then. Now he says he will after losing the House .... makes no sense as to appeal to his base.
