The OP seems to be very confused. Trump is being stupid and keeping the government closed. He actually accepted responsibility for a shutdown some 6 weeks ago before it even began. Has walked out on congressional leaders during negotiations to resolve the crisis. He is not willing to compromise at all on his wall funding request. Odd that he is sticking to his funding request given he had no issue doing a complete turnaround on his campaign promise that Mexico would pay for the wall. Also strange that in the first two years of Trump's presidency, he did not make such a demand even though it was directly after the last national election and his party controlled all branches of the federal government. The people spoke in the last 2018 election. They do not support Trump or his agenda which includes the wall. The new congress is right to hold firm and adhere to the will of the American people.

Trump don't care about the GOP.

If he did, he would declare a national emergency and announce he is building the wall without Congress. They can go ahead and open the government for all he cares.

This would give Republicans some cover here.

The national emergency would be tied up in the courts but Trump could tell his base that he tried, he tried, but the deep state had it in for him and his worthless wall.

Trump also doesn't care about our country. It is almost as if he is hell bent on destroying it.

I don't even think she cares one way or another about the people that are suffering on both sides of the border.

The reason she is keeping it closed is because she thinks Trump will close the Gov. the next time he doesn't get his way. Talk about cutting off ones nose to spite the face... Talk about being childish. Border security should be the number one security concern NOT a game of political football. We are talking about real people that are hurting because of this nonsense.

I say give him the money because border security is important and then get to work on a budget that works so we won't have anymore shutdowns.

Why do we keep finding ourselves in this predicament time and again?

If our elected would do their jobs we wouldn't have shutdowns and if we do then they do not get paid and they should be locked in the senate chamber until they can work it out.

I shall again cite history:

"We must recall ancient history: on December 20, 2018, the United States Senate passed a bill to fund the government, for a while (continuing resolution), by a tally of 100-0. Even Mitch voted for it.

https://www.cnn.com/2018/12/19/polit...all/index.html

After the vote, during the late afternoon, President Trump tweeted this:

"With so much talk about the Wall, people are losing sight of the great job being done on our Southern Border by Border Patrol, ICE and our great Military. Remember the Caravans? Well, they didn’t get through and none are forming or on their way. Border is tight. Fake News silent!"

So, what happened? Limbaugh and Coulter threw a fit about the lack of funding for a wall.

Hence, realizing that his 'base' did not want to hear about a 'tight border', Mr. Trump instantly changed his mind, said he would not sign the bill, and demanded money for the wall. He even told Shumer that he would take all responsibility for the shutdown.

Now, instead of a 'tight border', Mr. Trump is claiming a crises at the same border.

So, Mr. Trump is not to be trusted. Recall the 100-0 vote. If the Democrats 'cave', and give him money specifically for a wall, what will Mr. Trump demand when the continuing resolution expires?"

Remember the chant at every rally.
Trump to crowd : "Who's going to pay for the wall?"
Crowd: "Mexico!"

It is wrong to use government employees as pawns. Trump has said that he will not accept any legislation to let government run without getting what he wants.

Pelosi giving in now would be setting a dangerous precedent.

Take funding for the wall out of the budget. Definitely pass legislation that allows existing government agencies to run as they should.

Sit down and talk it out.

Maybe the President should have been talking to the Dems for the last two years.
