There are not "lots and lots" of people carrying in Texas.
First and foremost, I agree.
However, the conventional response is that the thought or possibility of an armed individual ready to retaliate is the deterrent.
Consider that for one second..... and I hope you come to the conclusion that even that wasn't a deterrent and irrelevant to a mass shooter.
Maybe... (I don't want to debate here) it would be for most other criminals but in a mass shooting situation when the individual is not of sound mind or perhaps has a death wish, it is not.
Such a horrible tragedy. So many people dead and wounded. Looking to find more information on the shooter's motive. I do wonder how much longer these mass shootings will continue to be ignored by the federal government.
That's because so many are racist and hateful. That is part of the legacy of this great country, and still today.
Based on FBI and USDOJ stats it seems that non-whites are the most violent racists. Whites don’t even have the highest rates of mass murder in the U.S.
The shooters know that if they survive and get arrested they get an attorney, a psychiatrist, a private room, three meals a day, and free medical care.
In the unlikely event if they get the death penalty all of the above will continue for the next 15-20 years or longer.
Modern civilizations, the US and Europe, are not willing to wipe out evil the moment it appears, and we all pay the price, be it untimely death or living in fear.
Thank God, Texas usually executes the perp far more efficiently than most states.
My hunch is todays murderer does not see his 23rd birthday.

We discussed earlier in this thread why armed civilians might make the choice to not wave their gun around in public during a chaotic active shooting scene. You can either go back and read and pick up on a thing or two, or just keep slinging your helpful sarcasm around. Your call.
If you hunt waterfowl, you have to plug your gun so that it only holds three. Obviously Congress thinks ducks are more important than humans. We are getting ready to make great strides toward changing that attitude next year.
Certainly it would make the hunting sport more challenging... that might be a good thing. Many enjoy the extra challenges in hunting; friend of mine used to bow hunt for such reasons.
Anyways... but that doesn't equate to "ducks are more important than humans" That's a bit dramatic.
