There would be more opportunities probably and some would benefit, but as many or more would fall through the cracks. Every big, supposedly prosperous liberal locality has failure and poverty. Just look at California. The diversity would be a factor in that they would be around more people economically depressed and culturally different from them and who they don't click with.
But WV and KY are examples of failure and poverty while California is the 5th largest economy in the world. Not "clicking" with someone because they are culturally different, so choosing to stay in an economically depressed situation is a choice. Why should taxpayers keep paying for them if they refuse to adapt?
Why compare one of the worst performing states to an entire country?
Can we do USA vs Denmark?
My guess is that this thread is to counter the ridiculous threads lovecrowds starts every single day to denigrate an american city with a democrat mayor against one with a republican mayor. The comparisons are always assinine. But if you do not jump into those threads to condemn the OP do not jump in this one to do so.
WV and KY are almost entirely white and evangelical.
Fail.
Southern culture is the problem. The other factor he mentioned was culture. The Scotch Irish culture was vastly inferior to other white cultures. Unfortunately for Kentucky and West Virginia.
Some white cultures are better than other white cultures. It’s only in the last century that white cultures have begun to converge.

Ugh so is everyone in KY and WV suppose to move out of those states or what? I just explained why it wouldn't benefit most of them.
Keep in mind Kentucky and WV have lower prices than the country at large.
Lowest has nothing to do with quality, You basically said the food they desire. I guess some folks desire McDonalds every day because they can't afford anything else and it kills them.

If someone couldn't get a job in NYC, would the expectation be for them to move? Why are we funneling so much money to these states so these people can be coddled? If an industry dies in the rest of the country, the expectation is for them to get retrained and get a new job. "Benefitting" isn't even part of the conversation.
