]Toussaint Breda (later called Toussaint L'Ouverture, and sometimes the “black Napoleon”). Good write-up about him at HistoryWiz: Toussaint L'Ouverture
There was another revolutionary figure in Haiti, who came before him if I remember correctly...Boukmann was his name, I believe. I read that he set the stage for L'Ouverture to become as powerful as he was (albeit for a short time). Everything they did (not just the leaders but all the participants) must've taken more courage than I can begin to imagine.
I just want to say here that it's really cool to be reminded of how much african americans have made positive contributions to American society.
Here's another one: The black mother and father who work hard, provide for their children, love them, encourage them in the face of adversity, and teach them the virtues that will guide them well through life. These black americans should be admired most of all.
