I admire MLK and I think we have strayed from his philosophy.
But I absolutely loved Hattie McDaniel. You may say she played stereotypical roles but watch her - often times she is the only wise character among a bunch of fools (like in GWTW). And she won that Oscar decades before Sydney came along.
Malcolm X just based on the movie (so it may not be entirely accurate)... there was a man with integrity and died for believing in doing the right thing... very few people do the right thing anymore... so sad in life...
actually foreign blacks played a role in american history and politics. the haitian revolution is mentioned in african american history and played a role with the black code laws towards american(black) slaves
Dr. King for showing us the light.

Barbara Jordan, to her her talk was a true gift to man. She could have been the 1st woman & black to be President.
Jimi Hendrix was my hero for many years. I wish I still had that Black Velvet Picture of Hendrix I picked up in Mexico back in the 70's. How tacky would that be ?
