It's hard to quantify, for lack of a better word, who is "black" or "white" in this context. Genetically, I am roughly half "black" and half "white" (with other ancestry as well), but both of my parents are of African ancestry, as were their parents, their parents, et cetera. What is true is that my family, the African American (father) and the Latino (mother) side, come from a long line of people of mixed African, European, Native and other origins. They are the same as most African descendants, people who are considered mulatto in Latin America. A mulatto is not half white and half black. In the 1500s that might have made sense, but mulattoes and their mixed descendants have been reproducing for five centuries now. A mulatto is a person of mixed African, European and sometimes Native or Asian origins.

besides mestizos still vastly outnumber afro latinos as do whites.
Yes. But that's beside the point.

Right I hear what your saying, but just because a mestizo or mulatto may have a miniscule third root in them that doesn't change their title whether it be mestizo or mulatto. people who are heavily tri racial such as many PR's I'd consider to be a mestizo/mulatto.

Boxr, I didn't meant that everyone was racist, but that you would not be able to find a country, city, town, etc. without racism somewhere in it.

I think the majority of the racism comes from the lower SES groups. They are competing from the same limited resources. They are living in cramp and rough areas. When times get tough it is natural to join groups that share a similar background. Sometimes that similarity includes color of skin.

Talk about recycling a old thread! Well we Cubans do not hate our black brethern since we have African blood in us as well! Usually what divides people is culture especially in a city like Miami.
Maybe the bigger question to ask is why Haitians don't want to be associtaed with black Americans in Miami because you hear it all the time! You should hear what a lot of them say!

Isn't it obvious? Half of the Black American community does not know how to act. It saddens me. It's like we look to live up to the stereotypes placed upon us. Plus the music we are spewing doesn't help our image.

It was mostly spaniards that mixed with the natives in spanish South America not slaves, slaves were only brought to a few coastal areas of South America(mostly Brazil).

Do you know half of the black population in the US to make this statement......thought not. Talk about stereotyping.
