Those who are racist, in my opinion, are trying to set themselves as insiders vs. outsiders. Some may be racist against black Americans far more than people of their own background who are of African descent.)
so is it a mixture of ethnic hate and not purely racism

My friend has a Cuban mother and so Spanish was her first language, but she doesn't "look hispanic" and most Spanish-speaking people assume she doesn't understand them. She's had fun with that--delivery people who bring the wrong order or give back the wrong change, she'll say to them in Spanish "don't pull that 'I don't speak English crap on ME". She's also listened in stores as the clerks behind the counter talk about her in Spanish, criticizing her clothing or whatever, and then on her way out says something to them in Spanish, just to enjoy seeing the shocked look on their faces.
what does a hispanic look like?"

Please get your facts straight
not all of them, mexicos' white(french, spanish, and other euro groups) population is 9%. the jewish population in mexico is not that large and they dont run anything there like they do in america.
the black population of afro-mexicans is very low and are isolated

Brazil is not a mulatto country, it's a diverse country, whites make up a plurality there and not all pardos are mulatto, many are caboclo (indian and white) and many others are tri racial.http://www.if.ufrj.br/general/brazil.html (broken link) (Ethnic Groups: White 53%, Mulatto 22%, Mestizo 12%, Black 11%, Japanese 1%, Other 1%).

yes......and many of the people in the "white" and "mestizo" population are actually triracial, making the white population and mestizo population actually smaller, and the mulatto population larger.

Exactly!
The problem (if you want to call it a problem....maybe issue is better) with racial identification in Brazil is that there is a "benefit" to being "White" so you have many people who have smaller, less detectable percentages of African ancestry who do not "claim" their African roots as a part of their identity. In the US we used to call it "Passing".
People like Mariah Carey, Rashida Jones and Wentworth Miller would not be considered "Black" in Brazil despite the fact that they all are half Black.

Don't fully agree with that statement, the same could be said for many mulattos who are tri racial such as Dominicans. mestizos are predominatley white and indian, just because some mestizos and whites are tri racial that doesn't make them mulatto or increase/decrease their numbers, mulatto means half white half black.
besides mestizos still vastly outnumber afro latinos as do whites.

first off personally I don't think mariah carey or rashida look black at all, they'd be considered mixed in Brazil

Or at least they are of known African ancestry.
