Supporters of Mumia Abu-Jamal, a death row inmate convicted for the 1981 shooting death of a Philadelphia police officer, said the protest was called after the Supreme Court on Monday rejected claims that Abu-Jamal, a former radio journalist and Black Panther, did not receive a fair trial.
``We knew there was another event going on, but the timing of the court decision is what dictated when the protest was held,'' said Van Jones, a San Francisco civil rights lawyer who helped coordinate the protest march.

There is no such thing as a "czar" you know. It's merely a word that the media have decided to attach to some holding plain old garden-variety positions in the White House Office or within the chain of command at executive departments and agencies. Some of them require Congressional confirmation, some of them don't. Bush had people in these same and other similar positions. So did others before him. The whole "czar" meme is just another example of right-wing gullibility and paranoia.
And since I've had a good deal of experience with federal background checks and security clearances over the years, it is quite apparent to me that most of you don't have a clue about those either. They are not at all designed to do what folks here apparently think they are. From all this prattle, you seem to believe that they are designed to weed out everyone who is not some sort of hard-core right-winger. Maybe guess again...
Obama has in place a vetting process, but since he is a "czar", he does not have to go through congressional confirmation, which obviously he would not pass.

It is crystal clear, obama knows all about his background and "history". He is a friend and they are cut from the same cloth.
The Obama Administration refuses to say how communist Van Jones was hired as the "Green Jobs Czar" and who recommended him.
Jarrett is well-connected in Chicago circles. Valerie Jarrett's late father-in-law, Vernon Jarrett, was an associate of Communist Party USA member Frank Marshall Davis and that they worked together in Chicago. Davis, the subject of a 600-page FBI file, is the mysterious "Frank" from Obama's book, Dreams from My Father, and served as a mentor to a young Barack Obama in Hawaii.
But other evidence supports the idea that Rep. Barbara Lee, one of the most extreme members of Congress and an apologist for Fidel Castro, played a key role in the Jones appointment.
But behind Lee and Jones is an influential network of communists known as the Committees of Correspondence for Democracy and Socialism (CCDS). Lee was a secret member of the group, a spin-off of the Communist Party USA, while Jones was the keynote speaker at a 2006 CCDS fundraiser.
How did Obama get through FBI and Secret Service. If political candidates had to get through these clearances, how many would make it? Think about that the next time you vote. These people have access to information most of us do not see. I find that very scary.
To answer your question: Do Czar's have to go through a clearance? Maybe that is why Obama has Czar's. Is the mob running our nation? If it looks like a duck, it acts like a duck and talks like duck; it probably is a duck.
Czars are of the President's picking. They are his advisors and do not have to go through Congress.
Any wonder why people are upset that there are more czars than Cabinet members ? Any reason why we even have a Cabinet anymore ?
I do believe they should get rid of Valerie Jarrett the same time they get rid of Van Jones. According to what she said on t.v., she had been watching him since he was in Oakland, and she finally got him in the white house. Lucky us. And get rid of any other staffers who knew of his background.
