Poland and the Czech Republic combined are contributing a whopping 3.6% of the forces in Afghanistan. Why we are still there at all when our own government is stating that al-Qaeda is no longer there is unclear.

0bama announced his cancellation of the ballistic missile defense systems in Poland and the Czech Republic on the 70th Anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Poland. 0bama is doing a good job of making sure we have no "permanent allies" any where in Europe.
He's doing a good job of keeping us from drifting into a war with Russia. Bravo for him.

I was referring to saber-rattling in the form of nuclear weapons build-up. It is hypothetical I admit but there most likely would have been a massive conventional war had we not both puffed our chests out. There are many instances of one side reminding the other how foolish war would be-the chess games played by fast attack nuclear submarines being one example.

One one hand they heighten tension but they also do a remarkable job of keeping the peace if both parties rattle their saber effectively.

Well, the US is that bad guy, to many people. We need to stop being so aggressive, and paranoid. It's good to be vigilant, and defensive when we are invaded, or an ally needs real help, but this Star Wars thing is RIDICULOUS.
This has nothing to do with Star Wars.

That was an initiative started by Reagan which involved space-based interceptors. I agree with your premise that the US needs to stop poking its head everywhere. But we do need missile defense systems in place, just located on the sea and our own land instead. They have little chance of intercepting the hundreds of warheads that could come simultaneously from Russia but probably would stop a couple lobbed by Iran or North Korea. Even if they don't have a perfect success rate they should still be in place.

Wow, I can't improve on this. Well stated!

Only if you think of the region being Europe (including all of Russia), Asia, North Africa, and Micronesia .

Russia and Iran aren't bent on destroying this country, let alone Obama.

They would, however, like us to get out of their backyard, as would I.

I must've just imagined John McCain running around last year implying that we ought to hang our heads in shame because we weren't giving a war guarantee to Georgia for cripe's sake.

Obama is either purposely offending Poland or he is a complete and utter idiot.

First, he snubs the summit in Gdansk commemorating the 70th anniversary of the outbreak of World War II.

THEN, on the very day that Russia invaded Poland in 1939, he announces his withdraw of missile defense.
