Truth is often stranger than an episode of CSI. The plot thickens and I suspect some real answers cannot come quickly enough for the UA-H community and the families of those murdered.
Apparently two of the three surviving wounded remain in critical condition, one stable. The suspected mass murderess has been charged with capitol murder x 3, thus far.
Thoughts and prayers go out to the families of those killed, injured, and otherwise affected.
Maybe the faculty should have included some Clozapine capsules in her notice of non-tenure envelope.
You do not know her mental state prior to the shooting. The above statements are entirely supposition.
Why is it so difficult to accept that sometime people do really evil things and that it is not always preventable. As it is coming to light this may not be the first time this woman did an evil deed that took the lives of others.
A closet psychopath who was not an entirely a sociopath? Very possibly. Time will tell.

The failure to make tenure to a researcher is usually the end of an academic career. This is especially true for someone at a second tier university like UAH. If she had been at Harvard instead of UAH then a second tier school might find that having someone from Harvard or with a Harvard connection could increase the prestige of that smaller school's faculty. Her only other options would be getting a job with industry where research is focused on business goals so you are not free to do what you want or find interesting. Other options would be trying to get a medical degree or a law degree and launching a new career but consider a person who has failed to make tenure is probably at least 40 years old. So failure to make tenure is more than losing a job it is a major blow to one's pyschological frame of mind. You are losing something you spent about two decades striving to earn.
Ok, so granted I have never fired a pump action shotgun, but really is it possible to "accidentally" fire it even just ONCE let alone the THREE times she fired it back in 86? Really?
Any pump action shotgun owners, please do advise.

Once, yes. Thrice is highly unlikely in my opinion.
That is tragic. Maybe universities will learn that workplace bullying contributes to these type of violent events.
How is this the fault of the university causing a person to bring a shotgun to shot six people and kill three. It sounds like the bully ;if you want to call it that is the shooter. To dney tenure is hardly bullying to anyone with any sense;I beleive. More likely anger caused this cold blooded killing of three people and injury to three others.
