The narrative on Manning has reached absolutely absurd levels this season. I loved how at the beginning of the season all the talk was about Manning's diminished arm strength, at a time where he was overthrowing most of his receivers rather than under-throwing them. He led an insanely clutch game tying drive in Kansas City, which quieted the critics somewhat. He eventually had a very good game against the Packers and against the Colts as well save for the late game interception. It wasn't until his horrible, injury-riddled performance against the Chiefs that this narrative started to fire back up again.

That said, here are the facts.

- Manning has never had a strong arm or thrown pretty passes with tight spirals. The greatest weapon Manning has used is between his ears, making adjustments and always being two steps ahead of the defense.

- You only have to go back to 2013 to see Manning flinging the football all over the field while his offense broke just about every offensive record there is. 2014 was much of the same until he hurt his quad.

- His woes in 2015 are almost certainly more related to the hybrid offense he tried to meld with Gary Kubiak. Manning has basically run one offense his entire career (the Tom Moore offense, which is an offshoot of the Air Coryell offense) and trying to mesh that with Kubiak's zone run, bootleg based West Coast Offense was probably a recipe for disaster. It finally started to click though, just in time for Manning to get hurt again.

- We've seen enough from Manning this year to know that when healthy, he is still very capable of performing at a high level.

59% completion rate, 9 TD's and 17 Interceptions says your wrong...

He hasn't performed at a "high level" in 2 seasons...

He has no feeling in his fingers, can barely turn his head and looks like a 50 year old on the field...

At the first sign of a rush he crumples to the ground..

Manning is done....he needs to retire before he really gets hurt out there

Of course its unlikely he sees the field again if Brock continues to play well

Decline =/= reason for decline.

Can't believe I really have to explain that concept to a fellow adult.

Did you sleep through the first three quarters of the 2014 season where Manning was an MVP candidate again before he hurt his quad?

Which he's been dealing with since his neck injuries. That didn't seem to impair him much in 2012, 2013 and most of 2014, did it?

You tried saying the same thing while I was obliterating you in your own team's thread.

Kubiak reiterates Manning will return when healthy | ProFootballTalk

On Wednesday, a somewhat equivocal Brock-Osweiler-will-be-the-starter-in-Denver-for-the-rest-of-the-year-unless-he-isn’t-type report emerged. Broncos coach Gary Kubiak disputed it.

“I didn’t know anything about that,” Kubiak told reporters. “Listen, like I told you guys before, we’re totally committed to getting our quarterback — getting Peyton healthy and getting him back. Nothing has changed. Nothing has changed with where we’re headed this week. Brock is our starter this week, and we’re all-in getting ready for San Diego. We are week-to-week and doing everything we can to win the next football game. Absolutely nothing has changed.”

Too many are too ready to pitch Manning out into the street. I'll leave it up to Peyton. If he wants to continue, so be it.

What the coaching staff "says'' and what the coaching staff "does" are not one and the same thing which you would know if you had been watching football for more than 5 minutes of your life...

Ah yes, the "quad injury" the mysterious injury that was never reported on until AFTER Peyton began playing like warmed over crap most of last season...

Reason for decline??? He's old, injured and done...

The Bronco's offense was less than pitiful all season with Peyton, put a competent QB who can actually throw down the field and like magic the Bronco's offense is clicking...the problem was Peyton

Oh and before you recycle that lame as crap argument that Manning "only struggled because of the new system"garbage...tell me Einstein, has Osweiler been playing this system his whole career???

Oh, wait that's right, its new to him as well.

So essentially you are saying that a 1st ballot hall of famer with more smarts and football savvy than almost any QB in history (save Brady and a few others) couldn't figure out this system quicker than a QB who at this point is "just a guy" starting his first 2 games in the NFL

You are saying it took 8-9 games to "click" for one of the all time greats but only 1 game for a JAG???

Yeah....it couldn't be physical decline.

We have seen enough of Manning this season to know he is done, done, done and only a Bronco's homer would argue differently...

If Manning's name were Schaub, Sanchez or Kapernick with the numbers he has put up this season there would be no question where he would belong now....the bench or the street...

Last question, and take off your Manning goggles for this one...

Does any Bronco fan truly feel that the Peyton Manning they have seen play this season could have beaten the Patriots in that game last week??? You know who would have thrown 1-2 picks, I mean he has every game this season....could he have made the throws at the end of the game that Brock did??? Not a chance and if you say differently you either haven't watched Manning play this year or you are kidding yourself....

The corollary to that question is simple...

If you are Gary Kubiak and you just saw your QB beat the defending SB champs, the consensus best team in the NFL this season making throws you know Manning can no longer make, are you really putting Peyton back in???

Not a chance....

Elway and Kubiak will try and protect Mannings ego and legacy, this may turn out to be the worst case of plantar fasciitis in history....but you can't put Manning back in charge of this offense the way he has played

They will "say" all the right things...

But in the end what they "do" will speak louder.

Manning's done
