no, I have a big problem with salary caps in sports. And yes, the salary cap prevents teams from keeping all the players they would otherwise be able to keep.
I understand how it works. Do you?
Fortunately we have salary caps in most sports. Sucks you have a problem with it. And again, the salary cap itself does not prevent anything. The failure of teams and players to come to an agreement on salary is what prevents teams from keeping players. Which of course also happens regardless of salary cap.
Unconfirmed reports out of Valley Ranch this morning are reporting that Jerry Jones has granted the one wish of many Dallas Cowboy fans and he has officially sold the team. What may be even more surprising is to whom it has been sold too. The owner of the NBA’s Dallas Mavericks, Mark Cuban, now owns two sports franchises in the Dallas area. Cuban will be introduced as the new owner of the Dallas Cowboys in a press conference this afternoon.
Cuban, the Media Mogul can now add the title of “Sport’s Mogul” to his extensive resume. It is no surprise the Internet savvy billionaire used Twitter to announce his purchase and immediate plans for the legendary franchise.
“Brought first NBA championship to Dallas. Now, bringing the Lombardi Trophy back to Big D. Anyone have Jimmy Johnson’s number?” #ChangingOfTheGuard #BigPurchase - @mcuban
If this tweet is anything more than a joke, then it appears the Jason Garrett reign as Dallas’ head coach has now ended. Obviously, a big name like Jimmy Johnson returning to Dallas would be a huge coup for Cuban.
...
When asked about the possible sale, here’s what Johnson had to say:
“If the news is true, this is an exciting time for the franchise. Although Jerry and I did great things together with the Cowboys, sometimes a shake up is needed. And I can’t think of a better owner to coach for then Mark Cuban.”

Another positive thing the salary cap does is it makes it more crucial for teams to develop draft picks properly. Those draft picks if done right can step in and play the same role with minimal dropoff in production of the departing player or even better.
In regards to the Romo extension, just too much money. I get there aren't better options out there in FA or any very appealing QBs in this years draft but still it would have been better to hold off on the extension. Romo is just not worth that much money.

Dear fellow Cowboys fans, for the love of the team, dont give Jerry any more money. Stop going to games, dont show up at Jerry World for any other event, dont turn your TV to Cowboy games, dont even DVR the games.
until we may him suffer, he will not stop killing our team! geez.
