Well, consider their schedule.

I never buy a schedule argument, all teams have difficult games at some point in the season. Last year when everyone was hot on Falcons, some said because of their easy schedule they were 13-3.

Could be, but a balanced team, an even, consistent approach makes a major difference.

Nice road win for the Falcons yesterday over the Lions. And they get a bye week plus what should be a win the following week against the hapless Colts, which will set up a big game with the Saints.

nice win but the Falcons are still struggling a bit. Hopefully the bye week will allow them to right the ship a bit and they can make a decent push in the second half of the season.

Falcons have a tough playoff game against the Giants this weekend. Mike Smith, Matt Ryan and crew have done a great job over the past several regular seasons, but now they need to step it up a notch and get their first playoff win. Otherwise they are going to start hearing about how they can't get it done when it matters.

I don't expect them to make a deep run, but getting one playoff win would be awesome!

Next year.
Disappointing that the Falcons can't even sniff the endzone. Pathetic.
Hey Mike Smith.....You know field goals are not all that bad.. you should try it...

Something's up internally with a team that has the offensive weaponry the Falcons possess and can score only TWO POINTS in a playoff game against the 8-8 NY Giants. They made the Giants look so good we're now going to be subjected to ESPN's relentless worship of them which started somewhere around halfway through the fourth quarter. After the game on Sportscenter I wanted to hurl as the section on the left of the screen which indicates the upcoming segments on Sportscenter had FIVE captions with the word "Eli" in them. I mean seriously...

Back to the Falcons, something has got to happen to either Smith or Mularkey (or both) in terms of losing their jobs. Matt Ryan is a great quarterback who lacks the offensive scheme that is built around his strengths, which is something that quarterbacks like Rodgers, Brees, Brady and Stafford are reaping the rewards from. Turner, Jones and White are similarly talented players as well and I would hope the Atlanta sports community is screaming bloody murder now.

As far as that Giants game.

I wish that Arthur Blank would ban Mike Smith from going for it on fourth downs outside of the fourth quarter.

Smith gets too caught up in being "gutsy".

Going for it on fourth down and not getting it hurt the Falcons psychologically and gave the Giants more energy. A team can't help but to feel hyped after stuffing you on a fourth down attempt.

I can't disagree with you on ESPN and their intent on creating things that don't exist.
I will say that the Giants are a better team than the Falcons. The regular season, 9-7 not 8-8, was not representative of a healthy Giant team. They are still not healthy, but more so than most of the season.
BTW, Eli was great and has been for the entire season. If you watched the Giants each game, you would see that Eli carried this team on his back while they were struggling for a good part of the season. IMHO, he has been the best QB, maybe with the exception of Brees, in the NFL this year.
