Another bad accident there yesterday afternoon. I got to the intersection around 6:15pm, and as I was pulling up, a car attempted to turn left onto GLC from OKC and was hit hard in rear quarter panel by someone blasting through OKC. The van turning left spun a full 360 degrees before coming to rest on the median on GLC. Luckily no one was injured!
It is a very dangerous intersection that needs to be avoided for sure during rush hour. Very easy to be a victim of somebody else's stupidity even when you are careful. The NCDOT or TOC should have put 4-way stop signs before traffic lights get functional.
The CPD should set up there for the first week once its operational. I guarantee they would make a fortune from all of the people who will run that red light on OKC by not expecting it.
Surprising no update since the traffic lights have been working since Saturday. Just one day of flashing yellows. I guess the accidents there last Thursday was the impetus needed. It is still a major embarrassment for the Town of Cary that the intersection went 6 months with no lights, or a 4 way stop, when so dangerous. It reminds me of the accident 6 years ago at Cary Glen / Green Level intersection and after the death of 16 year old girl in a T-Bone the lights were installed in 3 days.
ToC need to take lessons from commercial businesses and instead of waiting 6 months for a developer to install traffic lights they should do the work with a contract in place and have an unbilled receivable on their balance sheet until the contractual payment date. They could add interest and profit too so taxpayers aren't out of pocket.
Anyways its great news that a dangerous intersection has made made safer with the traffic lights now operational.
Next up: stoplights at GLC/Jenks and GLC/GLW? At least they already have 4 way stops at each, so accidents are not likely to be high speed, but GLC/Jenks in particular seems to be a pretty busy intersection.
Anyone else notice that this light seems to be broken fairly often already?
Yeah, noticed it twice. Yesterday, they were doing some repair on it...
