The sooner they align Green Level /Okelly the better. The existing set up is not ideal for the level of traffic using both roads these days. Delays at peak times for people turning right from GL onto Okelly as it needs a turning lane when it's so difficult to make a left turn with volume of traffic. Cary did a great job on realigning the other part of Green Level adjacent to the Morrisville Parkway intersection, and hopefully this section will be completed soon rather than wait forever for a developer to do the work which seems to be the norm.

I pass by GL Church every time I go to High House. Very picturesque, as is the little farm house with the bright red barns across the street.

This is the mystery spot for me off GLC Rd.: http://http://www.bedandbreakfast.co...-scot-inn.html. I may have to spend a night away from home!

I see orange fencing and construction equipment around the area where the realigned portion of the road would go - maybe they're finally starting?

The lot this realignment would go through was auctioned on May 15, no idea the results of that auction but somehow I doubt the road will be realigned until that property is developed or the town steps in. The lot is pretty small and the realigned road's right-of-way will take up almost half of the land on that lot. Unless they can combine with other lots next door it might be difficult to develop the property, build the road including all sidewalks and a traffic signal, and still turn a profit, so I forsee some possibility of town involvement.

The fence and equipment you see more likely has to do with the Green Level Church Road sewer main project.

Actually, I reached out to one of the Town's council members yesterday, and this project is officially underway. M/I Homes has a restriction from the Town that prevents them from building more than a certain number of townhomes in their Amberly development until they re-align the road. Since the homes are selling well, they are running out of lots before they hit the restriction so they have started the re-alignment project.

EDIT: Here's the site plan from M/I homes for the re-alignment: http://sitesubplans.townofcary.org/A.../planindex.htm

I live in Amberly and it is great to hear they will be adjusting the roadway. It really makes for congestion the way it presently is set up.

Fantastic, thanks for sleuthing this out.

Any word on whether there will be a signal here from day one? Hopefully so, the traffic nightmare might only get even worse if it's just a stop sign.

All in all it's been rather fascinating to watch the street grid in NW Cary get built out by a combination of piecing together old rural farm-to-market roads and new construction. A few more planned connections to watch for in the area:

Scott King Road - Hopson Road
Wake Road - Kit Creek Road
Grandale Drive - Yates Store Road
O'Kelly Chapel Road - Little Drive (already under construction)
Morrisville Parkway extension/connection (developers are already building everything except the interchange itself)
Morrisville Carpenter Road - Carpenter Fire Station Road (funded by 2012 bond issue)
Louis Stephens Drive extension/connection
McCrimmon Parkway extension/connection

Another connection that I think would make sense, although it's not in any plans right now:
The northern end of Green Level Church Road (Alston Avenue) to TW Alexander via a bridge over NC 55

See a map/drawing here of all these connections (the one I made up is in blue, the others are in red)

I just hope they have traffic-sensing traffic lights and not those on a timer. There are too many places in the Triangle where you sit for 3 minutes while no traffic passes before you. Seems like a waste of gas to me.

Glad to see the trees cleared and the roadway path underway to align this intersection. The time is near - hoorah! I don't see how a light could be avoided. This has become a major intersection handling a lot of traffic. With Parkside Commons a stone's toss away, a light is inevitable!

With the new road alignment, does anyone have any insight what would be built on the vacant land immediately next to the wellness center?
