“Peta is also a graduate of the University of Florida College of Journalism and Communication. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Telecommunication-News, Minor in Geography and Certificate in Meteorology and Climatology.”

So I guess they’re no longer even requiring an undergraduate or graduate degree in meteorology. That was the thing that set their weather team apart and a national movement spearheaded by Greg Fishel himself to get scientists in front of the camera instead of communications degrees. Guess they’re not wasting time tearing down his legacy.

We don't know what discussions took place between Greg Fishel and WRAL management, but he certainly had enough time in at WRAL to officially retire. It seems like his departure could have been handled in a much better way that honored his many years of dedicated service to both the station and community instead of being so secretively abrupt, which is in stark contrast to the week long fanfare shown to Bill Leslie when he retired. I no longer watch WRAL news or visit their website since they don't allow access with my ad blocker enabled.

I record the weekend WRAL and CBS morning news so I can skip the commercials. I noticed a new weathercaster who didn't gel with me, fast-forwarded after 10 seconds. Reappeared later in the recording and found myself fast-forwarding again. Then I saw this thread.

They probably needed to get someone in quick....hard to get an established meteorologist in without a lot of notice I would think.

I think WRAL's statement made it pretty clear why Fishel left so abruptly - doesn't take a genius to read between the lines and realize he probably had 3 chances and used up 6. Some people think they are untouchable, some people simply can't help themselves till the touch bottom, only he knows which category he falls into.

The new meteorologist replaces Mike Moss who retired in December so I don't think her hiring was a rush job. I'm not sure how many meteorologists work behind the scenes at WRAL and/or if one of the behind the scenes people could become an on-air person real soon.

Maybe... Kim will come back to WRAL after leaving ABC11 some day!

So, was Bryan Mims replaced w/ Adam Owens on the weekends because we were complaining about him here on C-D??? On their website, Adam is listed as an anchor/reporter and Mims is listed as a reporter.

Nope. And why should they? Anyone can predict the weather with a quick internet search. Besides, eye candy is what brings viewers, not good reporting or weather predicting. ABC11 has led the pack with eye candy with CBS17 in a close second. WRAL had to do something.
