I will never ever date a woman that’s into yard sales, crafting and antiques ever again. The last one I dated long-term was down right irrational and would out her self in harms way financially all for the latest find.
Does anyone else have hobbies that are an instant deal breaker?
I wouldn't call them an instant deal breaker, but I'm not really into the crafting/etsy/pinterest crowd either.
So yeah, there are some hobby enthusiasts that I'm probably less likely to be compatible with, but that's not the hobby's fault.
I, however, am into several hobbies that have frightened away more than one woman. I played poker professionally for four years, and a lot of people misinterpreted that as "gambling addiction". And I've been a HUGE gamer for as long as I can remember, which is absolutely a matter of like-seeks-like...if a woman isn't a gamer herself, she'll hate my gaming habits.
Hunting - I do have respect for hunters because I probably couldn't kill an animal if I were starving and someone has to do it but I couldn't listen to hunting stories with enthusiasm.
Anime- the whole obsession with adult cartoons freaks me out. Being "into" anime is definitely a deal-breaker for me.
Trains- not that trainspotting or model trains is an awful hobby but this is the sore spot of mine because my husband drives me crazy with it. Everytime we go on a trip we HAVE to see the trains. Last summer we went to a great National Park with a nice hiking trail that led to a falls. We got half an hour in and had to leave to go look at trains. So basically we had a 15 minute walk into the park and a 15 minute walk out of the park.
Being an "avid collector" of anything- I can get past the idea that some people like to pick up certain little trinkets here and there. I buy a magnet from vacation spots (the first time I go to a destination) but I'd never say I collect magnets. I don't spend hours researching magnets every week or spend all my money on them. If someone says they are a "collector" I run for the hills mostly because I like having experiences more than acquiring things.

As long as she doesn't make me participate in a hobby I'm not interested in or have a hobby that dominates all of her time, then I'm good with it.
It seems pretty much everything anyone might do has been covered. Most of what is mentioned, if not all, whether it be an actual pastime or a bad, unhealthy habit, would be a turn-off for me. Some are obsessive, as the person the OP mentioned, who appears to be a hoarder and being obsessed with anything is unhealthy. (However, I am frequently on this site, so....). Glad I don't have to deal with another's anything.
It would be nice if we knew beforehand the reality of what we would be getting into when meeting or becoming involved with another. Honestly, I don't recall anyone I was with leaning too heavily toward any, one thing, thankfully. (Except there was one who had a sex / porn problem, which I became to realize was sex addiction, having to do with something other than sex. Talk about needing actual hobbies).
Unless it is a hobby we passionately share, then it is a deal breaker if it is very expensive (unless they can easily afford it without sacrificing relationship financial goals), makes the house a mess, is time consuming and takes significant time away from us or consumes weekends, noisy, creates unpleasant smells, or involves unpleasant additional participants.
