My initial thought is that perhaps the woman in question is reluctant to get involved with a neighbor.
I did, and when it was good, it was very, very good (and convenient). But we are no longer together and it can be awkward. He knows when I come and go; he knows if I have someone here. Of course, I have the same knowledge and information about him.
We greet each other and that is about it. Of course I don't know what goes through his mind, but I know what happens in mine. Anyway, I would be more than hesitant to ever again get involved with a neighbor.

Good advice I'm sure not many people consider before making this mistake.

I can see that for the OP, those qualities of compassion are not attractive.[/quote]
Well...I think it's that cat lady/crying ovaries combo, and MAINLY getting rejected. lol
Why was he only bothered by the funny "crying ovaries" comment and the fact that she had cats, after she "rejected" him?
Until then, apparently this was all good. He had a "real thing" for her, he says.
But now that she didn't eagerly jump for his text, she's a crying, bio-clock, relationships-nonfunctional illegal cat hoarder.
Someone who is so much into cats will most like not have chemistry with someone who isn't passionate about animals. OP doesn't strike me much as an animal lover, so I am not surprised she is not interested.

There is compassion, then there is crazy. Seeing cats go to a good home, compassionate. Breaking your lease to take in 5-20 cats, damn crazy cat lady.
Sounds like you dodged a bullet to me. Consider yourself lucky.
