Yes, you didn't start the thread, but, these type of threads always attract the "penis waving", and the "pigeon chested look at me" brigade.

Bear in mind that, although I'm being a little sarcastic, and only poking gentle fun at you, this is the perception of a lot of men and women out there.
Where do you think stereotypes come from ?

BTW, what's the difference between a 'Vette and a porcupine ?

On a porcupine, the pricks are on the outside !

J/K
Got a few friends with Vettes, they always take some stick off us Ford guys !

I had some tough years, it was a treat, I have no regrets and people that don't like it can go get bent.

I have never been into the kind of car a man drives. Who cares...it's just a car. I have driven some beaters in my younger years and anyone who judged me because of it...oh well, I wouldn't want to be with them anyways.

Personally, I don't care to spend my money on some overpriced, depreciating asset for someone to come along and knick it, scratches, rocks, etc. no thank you. I bought one brand new car when I was 18....never gain will I buy a brand new car.

Just give me a sensible, reliable car any day and I'm happy.

Well I still think it depends on the lady and her whole outlook on life. I know women an expensive car impresses, and I know women who would think your expensive car is a waste of money. I've had both kinds of cars, and I've dated both kinds of women. I kind of feel the same about cars and women; I don't want either that is 'high maintenance'. Somewhere in the back of my head, before I ever got serious about that high maintenance women, I would wonder what her thoughts on a divorce settlement would be. Yeah, I know, I'm hopeless...

If a guy is in his 40's or 50's and is still driving that same piece of junk it's not going to reflect very well on his abilities. I don't see this as being much different than how appealing a man would be who's older and is living in a beat up trailer house as opposed to a house that's well maintained.
Nonsense. To me, its just reliable transportation that I want and have. I hardly have any concern about how "it's not going to reflect very well on" my abilities. I certainly have nothing to be ashamed of in my career or the way I've set myself up in life. However, wasting money on a flashy car is just plain stupid. People who I respect try to get the best value for the money.
I actually agree with your point of view and I have an economical and practical little pickup which suits my needs just fine. The point that I was trying to make was that if a guy is driving something that looks like it belongs in a junk yard it's probably going to make a negative image on women who see it. I think a great many women would not be all that impressed with a guy who foolishly spent too much money on a fancy car unless he could easily afford it and they would be more likely to appreciate a guy who was practical in terms of his finances.
I'm just saying that if you go to the other extreme and drive a junker it will probably make people think that you haven't done very well in life as far as a career is concerned.

I didn't really want to comment on this thread but I can't help myself.

We humans are so judgmental and shallow. If it isn't a person's car it's their house or their clothes.

If you must judge another person judge their character, how they treat others, how kind they are to animals and children.

What you own or don't own is not a reflection of your worth as a person.

I already conducted this study on my own.

One summer when I was in my early 20's I had a place at the Jersey shore I went to on weekends. One of the other guys in the house was a Dr. Most weekends I drove to the shore in my Ford Escort. But on some, he would fly down in his Piper and I would drive his Porsche down so he'd have it for the weekend.

Care to guess which weekends I got the flirty looks, beeping and waves from the carloads of girls going to the shore? It was so ridiculous that we used to laugh about it. I called his car "The German aphrodisiac".

they respond more to cars than clothes and money.
The boys in the trades around here all want a shiny new "super truck." I parked nose to nose to one and couldn't see the windshield.

I looked at it and there wasn't a mark on it from any actual work ,although you know these guys are writing it off on their taxes.

What gives? Well, when they go to a job out in the wilds (off road) they have a cheap beater to get them and their tools there. When they come back to town, the competition for young tarts is fierce and they have absolutely no luck in these boom towns without such a vehicle.

These girls will accept nothing less. Its a shagging wagon, er "pickup".

I'll bet you were one of the girls getting picked up (in spirit anyway) in front of a major office tower where I live. I was waiting for the bus (another relationship killer) and noted a long line of luxury vehicles driving by to pick up a steady stream of nubile bimbettes.

Probably lawyers driving them. They boast about their long hours but need to take an hour (or more likely 2) off at 4:30 to perform this useful service.

That sounds like my first car and I was a poor accounting student then. Was called cheap - women don't like frugal.

My last car was also somewhat similar. I was rear ended and it looked okay but it turned out that the frame was slightly bent and the door was slightly jammed. Got out a sander and "trimmed" it.

A Montana guy would appreciate this:

Car was 18 years old when I went to a function when it was 30 below. Started it up and almost ran over someone trying to stop me.

Turned out my car was the only one to start! Boosted 20+ cars that night. Good reliable transportation. I've spent a total of $17,000 on cars in 29 years of driving. Going to the auction this weekend to try to get a deal on car #5. Time to change since I don't want to spend $1,500 on a new heater core. Vehicle owes me nothing.
