Even if hell exists, I don't see it as something to fear.
Of the many things I find irrational about the variant of Christianity that says Jesus died for our sins and we deserve hell and only through him can we seek forgiveness, one of these things is the following: If we deserve hell, all of humanity going there (except Jesus and a few prophets and other sinless) is a positive thing. It seems like we should be thinking: Yeah! I'm going to hell! I'm going to get what I deserve! Justice is served!
If we deserve it, why would we want to get out of that through brown-nosing the boss?
I'm sure I'd do a lot of begging for forgiveness while down there and shouting "Please, let me out!" but that'll probably be because I'll be on fire which will make it difficult to think clearly. Now's when I can think clearly, and right now it seems like if I deserve hell and I go there, that'll be a positive thing.
If I don't deserve it and I go, I'll just be one of many innocents sent down there so one more person to go down there won't really matter that much.
