God had to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah and the cities around them because of their sexual deviancy.
He didn't want a repeat of the same kind of wickedness overtaking the world as it had done in Noah's day prior to the flood:
2 Peter 2:5-10 and spares not the ancient world, but guards Noah, an eighth, a herald of righteousness,
bringing a deluge on the world of the irreverent;" (6) and condemns the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah,
reducing them to cinders by an overthrow, having placed them as an example for those about to be
irreverent:" (7) and rescues the just man, Lot, harried by the behavior of the dissolute in their
wantonness" (8) (for the just man dwelling among them, in observing and hearing from day to day,
tormented his just soul by their lawless acts), (9) the Lord is acquainted with the rescue of the devout
out of trial, yet is keeping the unjust for chastening in the day of judging, (10) yet specially those going
after the flesh in defiling lust and despising lordship. Audacious, given to self-gratification, they are not
trembling when calumniating glories,
Uh, the big sin of Sodom and Gomorrah was inhospitality, and, as you said, irreverence.

So, you just made it up... Thanks for clarifying, by pointing out that the Bible says nothing about mental retardation, sexually transmitted disease or infants being disease vectors causing God to wipe out mankind.
In the future though, you can save yourself some typing by just saying, "Yeah, I totally made that up!"
First of all, you don't know if there were any mentally handicapped people back then.
Secondly, it could be that there was rampant disease that was infecting all mankind from sodomy and whatever else they were doing and so the babies carried the disease as well. Either all would die or a few would be saved to re-kick start humanity.
I would say you're grasping but what would be the point?

Jud 1:7 As Sodom and Gomorrah and the cities about them in like manner to these committing ultra-prostitution, and coming away after other flesh, are lying before us, a specimen, experiencing the justice of fire eonian."

Most likely "other flesh" meant "beastiality."
Ultra-prostitution? (the new and improved prostitution from Proctor & Gamble)

Lot was polite to his guests (the angels).
The angry mob, however, wanted to rape the angels.
Lot was willing to toss his daughters to the rape-mob to prevent harm to his guests (the angels). Quite the father of the year we have there.
I'd suspect tossing your daughters to a rape mob counts as a form of sexual deviancy. His daughters also got Lot drunk and used him to impregnate them later...which is another form of sexual deviancy. So, we have sexual deviants who have escaped the city. They were, however, reverent and polite to their guests (the angels). https://www.biblegateway.com/passage...19&version=NIV
I hate Lot.
His daughters had very strange thought processes.
The only potentially decent, mentally stable escapee was Lot's wife, and she got vaporized. That seems to fit patterns in this book.

"And answering, Jesus said to them, "Those who are sound have no need of a physician, but those who have an illness" (Luk_5:31).
You can't always judge Lot by his actions toward the rape mob especially since that was standard protocol among the nations back then. Today we are incensed by it. Back then it was standard operating procedure.
But the point is not that Lot was evil but that the world of Noah's day was very wicked and God had to do something about it.

He vaporized someone for looking back. All we know about the person is she looked back.
Lot survived and he was the one who suggested tossing his daughters to the rape-mob...to the rape mob.
We don't have many examples of this creator being a good being. For all we know, the majority of the female percentage of the population wouldn't hurt a fly.
Your book does a horrible job of depicting the creator as a good being.
Larger animals can climb up hill as the world-wide flood is flooding the lower parts of the land.
So all the larger animals were conveniently waiting for Noah at the top of a hill? One hill or a whole bunch? Did Noah steer the ark to the hill(s) and put the gang-plank down?
Want to tell us how a soggy, wooden gang plank supported the weight of all those animals? Or did Noah have a whole bunch of gang planks that he took out of gang-plank storage as he floated from hill to hill?
Your book does a horrible job of depicting the creator as a good being.
That is the veil of ignorance over reading the OT that Jesus came to lift. It is why Christ's demonstration needed to be so dramatic and unambiguous. God IS agape love and Jesus displayed it in all its perfection . . . loving even His torturers and murderers. It is only the perversion of men that corrupted His Good News Gospel of a God who IS agape love into a barbaric blood sacrifice to appease the wrathful God of the OT. It is a travesty.
