Freedom of religion restricted to home, your mind or church (for now) is not freedom of religion. Our country was founded on the principle of freedom of religion, not freedom from religion.

Once again, you demonstrate that you do not understand what freedom of religion means. It does not mean that you may use your religion to deny others their legal rights.

There already is such a law. Every time one person receives a tax break for donating to a church, they shift part of their tax burden on to other taxpayers. That is how our tax system works.

Freedom FROM religion is just as important as freedom of religion. Religion has NO place in politics.

Follow your reasoning to its logical conclusion. If everyone has the right to impose their religion on others, at some point government will have to step in and decide which religious beliefs are the correct ones. That amounts to establishment of religion which is specifically prohibited. Therefore, since everyone cannot have the right to impose their religion on others, no one may.

He's been told that so often it should be a sticky at the top of the thread.

Again you make the same old point that has been proven ignorant and false. The country was not founded on freedom of religion, it was founded on freedom to not be FORCED to follow religion.

Try reading Lynne Chenney's book on James Madison. She details many of the "religious" wars taking place in colonial America including the attempt by some to tax others to provide for a particular religion.

The only mistake from both a social AND a religious point of view that the government has made, is to make religious donations tax deductible. There should be no financial gain from exercising faith--then it becomes a dodge like any dodge given to any corporation.

People with real faith instead of false, judgmental faith, have no problem supporting religious institutions regardless of tax deductions.

In other words, people of real faith are willing to be good for nothing.
