I've noticed we've got about half christians, half atheists here. So what exactly do you think the point in life is, and what do you think the individual should try to accomplish before they die?

I subscribe to a quasiCamusonian "What point?" argument, myself.

THIS IS NOT TRUE!! NOBODY is worthless! God has a plan for everybody...but you have to seek God in order to find Him! Do not give up on life and think you are worthless...that is nothing more than satan trying to have his way with you, and by the sound of that comment, you're letting him win! Do not fall into satan's trap!
Sorry to go off topic, but this had to be said!

As for the OP, I think the ultimate goal in life is to find Jesus! Once you have found Him and live for Him, everything else comes together perfectly. Even the hardest trials in life are more manageable with Him!
Once your salvation is clinched...then you help others and do good works! Once Jesus is in your heart, good works will come easy

There is no objective point to life.

That does not mean that life is worthless, as some christians then try to say. Nor does it mean the next logical step is nihilism.

Life is for living in and of itself. The joy of family and friends, the satsifaction of a job well done, the thrill of accomplishing a difficult task.

At the end, you die and there is nothing more.

We are really here on this planet to live for Jesus and then in turn, we hopefully will be better to our fellow man and be decent members of society. There are many people though that are non-believers that do good works.

I truly believe the only reason God put us on this Earth to know His Son and do our best to live like He did although we will never be able to be that good. There just can't be any other reason in my opinion.

At the end, one doesn't just die but lives eternally.

I can't help but wonder, does this mean that folks who don't have their salvation "clinched", don't help others, and don't do good works? That until Jesus is in their hearts, they will find it hard to do good works? I suspect there would be alot of non-believers who would be rather surprised by that statement.

I believe many people do good works and help others. It doesn't take being a Christian to treat others right. Good works are not what gets one to Heaven, but many people think that is the way.

Well from a nonreligious:

The purpose of life is twofold:

Biologically, it is to reproduce and further your seed (If you are male) or to choose the best specimen of genetics for your seed (As female).

Socially, I would like to argue that it is to be productive to the society we live in and the whole "make the world a better place" deal. Though on some levels, I can see people arguing this to not be true.

I think our purpose in life is to bring praise to our creator and fill the earth as he originally intended. But we also owe it to him to show him love by abiding by his standards.
