What I find curious/interesting is how often in this forum when a person shares they are doing well the are accused of gloating etc. However when a person shares how poorly things are they are rarely accused of seeking a pity party. Just wondering!
The title of the thread and parts of the original post are not just about somebody "sharing" that he's doing well; they're both definitely seem like gloating. Why would "people" -- seemingly strangers -- be angry with somebody who got lucky in the stock market and inherited some money unless that person flouted others who didn't have the same luck?
I just looked at the OP's profile. He didn't "join" C-D until this month. He felt the need to tell us this as his FIRST EVER post? Another post he created is the even weirder "I feel small and cheap shopping at the Dollar Store and Walmart!" on the Frugality discussion and a he's posted a couple of times with one of those trollish "I'm just wondering ..." phrases in it.
Do I detect I'm Retired Now toying with us again?
That could very well be! It does seem to have the flavor of a I'm Retired Now thread.

as judge judy says . if it don't make sense it likely is not the whole story or true .

Simply in the process of normal interactions and doing so years out from their working years when much was known. We all have read the stories of the elderly outliving their money and is he a rose amidst the thorns? Also few of us are in our 80's and I for one was hoping to glean some possible insight from him about life down the road. Do you know what the mindset and culture will get like in retirement communities when folks have aged and are now on divergent income paths? I don't and insight is always helpful. I have started looking at CCRC's and retirement communities as folks hit their later stages of aging. Some of the marketing and sales approaches are curious.
It is interesting that you hear the complaints about people on social programs being funded by everyone else but there are generations living on the growth of old money basically doing the same thing. The line is that even though they don't work their money does, but sometimes I wonder - does it really?
Yes, in many ways both saved and spent. It is all in the multiplier effect of money and how money in the Economy grows.
I think it's awesome that you got to retire young, OP. You were smart and saved, made some good investments and got an inheritance. Ignore anyone's snarkyness, don't feel guilty and enjoy life
Of course at age 80 few people ask me where I worked or anything about my career. I was just telling a story about when I was younger and in my 50s and retired. But when people now here I have been retired for almost 30 years they think I was lazy in life for retiring so early.
You are lazy. That is a fact. But hey if being a non-productive member of society makes you happy go ahead.
The OP is definitely a shell account for somebody else; there are too many plot holes. I really doubt that someone that's been retired for 20-30 years just couldn't take it anymore and just had to create a new account to vent with strangers here.
It still makes for some interesting conversation for the authentic people here, so I'm glad this thread was made.

But if you go back to the post I was replying to (above my previous post; I don't think I quoted) the multiplier is the problem; it isn't a zero sum game as the amount of money in the system increases over time but not quickly enough. Usury pumps money in one direction as one of its effects.
