I have three excuses for not traveling much. Howie, Joe Joe Nightmare, and Monsoon. Finding someone to take care of my babies is a challenge. It drives John crazy that we don't travel more, but I just can't breath without my fur babies. We've been to Scotland and Wisconsin this year but I'm feeling the itch to be in the Caribbean and scuba diving sometime this winter. I'm also going fishing with the boys in May to Minnesota, with or without John
I want to go back to England again --have to see the grandson when he turns one. Anyway, I love England.
Want to go on another cruise. Next month after the holiday commotion dies down, we'll take a quiet weekend to a pretty town out of state, another place I love.
Road trips we take the dog. When it's not possible to take the dog, he has an "uncle" who takes care of him for free--or for a souvenir T shirt or mug.
I was a flight attendant for 35 years. It was a very difficult job, that only got worse after 9/11. I retired in 2014 and relocated to a new city. I bought a ticket on Southwest and flew to my new home with my two cats stowed under my seat.
While I was deplaning, I looked back at the airplane knowing it was last time I would ever fly.
I will NEVER step foot on an airplane for as long as I live.

Wow! Don't you still get reduced rates on flights? My job required a lot of air travel but I haven't flown since I retired. I like to take my dogs with me (sometimes) and won't put them in cargo and they are too big for under the seat. It has gotten to be a hassle.
Pretty hilarious. In order to be a prisoner, you have to be held against your will. I traveled all my life, having owned no dogs. Im done with traveling. Now i can have my dogs...and horses...and chickens...and a 10 acre farm...a be within an hours drive of the beach....and Disney. So no, "prisoner" is hardly a description of my life.
It sounds as though you are on vacation every day of your life. I'd love to live like that. Wanting to be home with your animals is hardly what I would call being a prisoner.
I have a cat and when I do take short trips I have a very nice cat sitter who takes care of her. When I was living in Portland I had another cat who would just plop herself down at a neighbor's and be content to stay with her until I got home.
Whatever works for the individual. Again, no excuses.

I pretty much agree with Escort Rider. OTOH - I am perfectly fine if you and others want to stay home with your animals. The people I dislike aren't the ones who stay home. They're those coming up with phony claims that their pets are "emotional support animals":
Another thing I dislike is the idea of "pet friendly" hotels. Where pets are allowed in all rooms. And where someone might have their animal sleep in my bed before I do. I suspect that many pet owners are fastidious about things like fleas and ticks. But I also suspect a fair number aren't.
BTW - most beaches in Florida aren't "dog-friendly" at all. And I think most people like it that way. Robyn

Plenty of people have worse things than fleas. There was a documentary that reviewed many high end hotels and went on the search for bacteria - found tons of it throughout the rooms. These were not pet friendly rooms. Many people are pigs and I'd rather share a room with a dog.
My excuse today is that last night I put together my 2016 personal budget and was depressed to realize how little I can (should) spend on travel next year. Phooooey, because I really wanted a trip to South America in 2016! Maybe at the end of the year if I underspend in other line items I can add a little to the pot and go someplace interesting.
