Escort Rider and Curmudgeon did meet up - ER took a road trip through Missouri, iirc. To my knowledge, no one here ever met Robyn. She was an energetic intelligent person with a very active mind, broad knowledge, tolerated no nonsense so could offend, whose posts I really enjoyed and from whose posts I learned a lot. I kept 'planning' to visit friends in FL, but never did. Had I done so, I would most certainly have looked her up. Escort Rider, too, had I ever got to CA. I once told Curmudgeon he reminded me of a law-enforcement relative I have who lives in the North Woods. Had I ever got to Missouri, I would have looked him up, as well.
Riverbird f/k/a NewEnglandGirl was a more ethereal type - very unlike the other three (or myself for that matter). I still think of her as NEG - miss her, as well. I was very shocked at her passing, but I had sensed a couple of years before she was diagnosed she had a premonition - continually talked about the aging process, end of life planning, etc. She was quite young at the time, and I often wondered why the early focus on tying up loose ends, if she had some ailment she didn't want to disclose. Clearly, she had a sense.

I think you misunderstood, Loriact. PAhippo was quoting one of the last posts by LilyLady. It was LilyLady who died of complications from cancer.
I wasn't around then, but I went back and read her posts. Very sad.
OTOH, here's one more person in the universe who won't forget her.
I think I mentioned this a while back: For every person alive today, there are 14 dead people. A teacher used this as the basis for a class project. She had each student select 14 people and collect all the information they could about their lives.
If we each did that -- collect 14 souls -- and when we passed, someone would collect us along with our 14, and so on, no one would ever be forgotten.
Has anyone heard from Tuborg recently? I've been thinking about him lately, remembering how much he loved walking the beach even in the middle of January. I'd love to hear how the clean up is going, and also how he's doing in general. Always enjoyed his posts.
I found this thread while looking for some of my oldest posts. The first page alone is worth reading the posts, and see who posted them.
I remember this thread! I've been reading this forum for years, even though I waited until I actually retired to start posting here. I remember how awesome some of the conversations were. There really was an amazing bunch of people here about ten years ago. There was one in particular about the benefits of libraries vs. using Kindles that I looked forward to reading every day. Not to mention the original "Living on a Shoestring" thread.

The problem was that the poster considered any information or opinion that differed from hers was nonsense.

And she was wrong about that. In Robyn's defense though, I'm confident she is the only poster here who graduated from Harvard Law School and went on to: 1. Found a law firm; 2. Argue a case before the US Supreme Court; 3. Become extremely wealthy; and 4. Retire in her forties.
Did it result in a certain amount of arrogance? Probably.
I understand though what it means to "suffer fools poorly". Many of us are guilty of that. I am not nearly as bright as Robyn was and yet I recognize some comments that are utter rubbish.
Most of the time, though, Robyn gave advice that was on-point and extremely practical.
I learned a good bit from some of Robyn's posts. Sometimes under the category of 'you don't know what you don't know'. In fact, I can say that in regards to a good portion of this retirement forum and many of the keen posters here.
