If they do move, it is all on Speaker Mattiello and the RI House. They have dragged their feet for so long that they allowed Worcester and the State of MA enought time to craft an attractive offer.
If the PawSox do move, it will be another loss for the City of Pawtucket (+Memorial Hospital). The state of RI would have failed Pawtucket twice in short succession. It would appear that the state could care less what happens with the city. I would not even be surprised if the state helps grease the skids for Hasbro to move. If Pawtucket continues to decline, the State of RI shoulders much of the blame for its wanton neglect of the city. It seems the state is only interested in protecting and investing in Providence and could care less about other towns.
Good riddance. If the state is going to spend 38 million on a business then recruit a business that can bring in much more then 2 million per year in taxes and also a business that has the potential to scale much larger over time. Minor league baseball lol....take a hike.

LOL.....please. Sports betting will make up for it as will spending the 38 million on a better and more scaleable business if the idiots in the state house play their cards right. The world didn't come to an end when Trump got elected despite the moron liberals claiming otherwise and the state will survive just fine without the Pawsox too. This is a good day for hard working tax payers.

Whether the Pawsox stay or leave, the state will continue to want the 2+ million per year (in the general fund) that they've been receiving from the Pawsox.
If they stay, an additional $38 million needs to come from somewhere.
That's essentially what I said. On the other hand, in another post, you claimed "your taxes just went up" as a response to a rumor, possibly team planted, that a deal is near in Worcester. But that $2M is missing from the revenue stream regardless, so it doesn't matter whether the team stays or goes. So you could well have said, "your taxes are going up, but it's not because the team (allegedly) is moving to Worcester, they were going up anyway". You can't have it both ways.

Umm...all of this was covered in post 349. You know, the post that you incorrectly stated was wrong in post 354.
There's nothing new about the deal in the Worcester Telegram, which is the paper of record, right?
It's pretty easy for Lucchino and company to drop a tip to try to light a fire under the RI house. I expect that is what is happening here.
Of course. Lil Rhody is always the punching bag in negotiations.....never the puncher. This will be no different. If the Paw Sox do leave it will be for less then the deal they *wanted* in Rhody. It won't be for more or even the same. One of these days someone in the state house will get tired of being the lackey and grow a pair. 38 million to appease a minor league team that only brings in 2 mil a year lol? I wonder how much of that is ad revenue that local businesses will simply spend elsewhere in the state anyway.
