How can you say because sports is important to some that means their education is not?

Noone is saying we need the big stadiums or not....we are saying that the option to play sports is important.

People are bashing sports and teachers. Neither one created the financial debacle.

I think if you look at the sports picture, football brings in a lot of money. Other sports? Nope.

And a comment was made about schools in this country. Well, sorry bout that, that's their local problem. I think overall, the schools in this area are getting along fine, except for maybe this year due to some mismanagement on the state government side of things. And as long as our federal government, the Bill Gates' and Oprah's of the USA are giving billions away to foreign countries. Well.............

You missed my other post saying that these kids can't even write properly in formal settings. Even when they are writing on social networking sites; they don't know the difference between their, they're, and there or your and you're.

No, RGJ, the schools in this area are not doing fine. SAISD has a 20% dropout rate and the Alamo Community Colleges are overburdened with the number of students who need remedial courses.

How many parents know exactly what their kid is working on in school? Is that kid in elementary, middle or High School? This support is key as well, regardless of what the state budget is.

Sorry, but I never seen anybody put on their resume anything that had to do with "recreation".

Nobody is saying that is not important for kid's and our society.
But people have to be blind to think that "recreation" is just as important as "education"

I have never seen anyone put on their resume that they can recite all the states in alphabetical order either

And I'm sure you have discussed your leadership skills when applying for a job. Did kids learn how to be a leader in geography class or as captain of the football team?

I have seen a lot of kids not being able to answer basic questions given on the US citizenship test given to immigrants wanting to become Americans.

How embrassing is that?

Go ahead and tell us how many kids that graduate from HS can say that they were captains of any team.
I'd be surprised if it's more than 10 in any graduating class.

Just to clarify, I think each team has more than one captain. I think my son's varsity football team has nine captains.
