I'm with you. I live right around the corner and have been waiting for the place to open. Not so much anymore with those prices. Maybe they have a captured audience with previous customers from there other locations.

Wander on over to Sazon's at Ellison & Potranco for some good, reasonable Mexican food. They got Ch. 4's "Best Tortilla Soup 2012" award.

I've been by the location and the restaurant looks absolutely palatial. I find that their astronomical prices are in line with the building itself. No barrio pricing to be had here.

Speaking of....went to Tito's in Stown for a work lunch. Had the chilequiles and avocado. Delicious as usual. We're "regulars" so I've noticed there isn't consistency during the week vs the weekends and lunch vs dinner. Lunch during the week is better. And the owner is real cool. They will make whatever u ask them - like empanadas de pollo, not on the menu. Chile rellenos are rly good there too. And best part totally reasonable in $. You can also get your drank on - but it was a work lunch and I couldn't go bk to work blistered.
Ditto, well said.

We feel the same about Aranda's on SW Military near Lackland. Place is good for breakfast tacos, GREAT for lunch, but dinner the few times we have gone is hit/miss. Obviously it is very important WHO is cooking in the back for consistentency. I ALWAYS order the same, so I can tell when things are not quite "all that".

Violas Ventanas - Pricy, food was cold, tamales were Valero quality. I hope this place improves everything but it is a nice looking building. The patio may be to big outside to get decent service a lot of real estate to cover out there...

Here is another possible reason:
I watched a restaurant type show last night and they showed a restaurant which had the same problem. Food was great early in the day but not during dinner time. Come to find out, they made most of the food in the morning and it was kept heated all day for lunch and dinner. No wonder the quality of the food deteriorated as the day wore on.

Carino's on 1604 - good food, lousy service. Sigh.

I went there for the first time, with a fellow CDer, on Sunday. Had a root beer float (ate at Tip Top Cafe earlier), it was sooooo good. I plan on eating the cuisine the next time!
