Pier 39. I worked on the aquarium there. I was dazzled at the tourists gawking.

I don't understand the big deal over the wharf. Its made for tourists, the tourists like it, and its on the water. Do you think millions of tourists would rather go hang out in the mission or haight? lol.

Visiting areas replete with grossly misinformed snobs who think there isn't anything worth venturing to in Silicon Valley.

Dude if you can't find anything redeeming about Chinatown, this city probably isn't for you.

This thread overall is wayyy too snarky for me.

So far, we have GG Park, The GG Bridge, Chinatown, The Haight......why dissect and critisize everything that's good about this city? Any city in the world let alone America would give their right arm to have the sheer amount of cool stuff we have.

We keep our tourists penned up mainly in the Winchester Mystery House, Santana Row, the Tech Museum, and Rosicrucian Museum, but there are plenty of other places they visit here.

Cheap, not particularly clever dig at SV. I don't know of anyone who visits SF looking for a tourist attraction with the descriptor 'the notion that there is anything worth venturing to in Silicon Valley' (or similar), and SV in general is never high on most tourist lists; doesn't make sense to call it overrated when it comes to tourism.

I don't mean to sound demeaning, but having had a number of friends who lived around the area for the last five years, it's not that bad. Having lived in a very suburban place before, it can be quite shocking, but most people around there are either tourists or bums who seem high most of the time. It feels a bit sketchy on Haight itself, but not bad once you get used to it.

The SF Zoo is overrated only because the Oakland Zoo is vastly better, but lesser known.

I hate Pier 39, but then, I'm not a tourist type, I don't have kids and my SO isn't impressed by the tourist traps either.
