Haight. It's just a bunch of reasonably priced head shops and chic hippy botiques, the type of thing that can be found in Any College Town, USA. Nevermind every city in the country with an "edgy" district/strip. Anywho I guess it has some interesting 60's history, but that is about it.

Magnolia Brewpub, El Balazo Taqueria, Shaxul Records, and Amoeba Music make it worth it.

Where neighborhoods are concerned. . . .

Last time I went to SF I took with me a list of addresses in the Haight area that where popular 60's bands lived. None were anything outstanding but it was still a cool experience for me. (One house has its number removed, likely because of people like me.) And, yes, there really isn't all that much in the district reflective of that time. But it's still a fun way to spend the day, and I do get tickled at the young hippie-wannabees who try to add to the historic atmosphere.

But the last couple of times I was there I found myself a little disappointed in the "downsizing" of North Beach's Italian heritage. Just wasn't the same. I'm sure it's changing as the old timers leave and that's the way things go. I remember reading about resentment over the Asian community taking it over. Personally, I don't blame them; I blame the Italian community for letting it happen. But the younger generations have made other life choices.

I'll give you Amoeba. Shaxul...not my thing but I see the appeal. Never been to Magnolia. El Balazo sucks.

Not after you've had a few at Magnolia (and whatever that other bar is we keep stumbling out of)

I've never liked the Upper Haight myself. The Lower Haight is alright but there isn't much to do there and it's basically next to Duboce Park and the norther Mission which are way better areas. Upper Haight is depressing touristy hippie shops and skate punks lying around begging and being annoying. Mad Dog in the Fog is a good bar and I got a burger at Magnolia that was fantastic, it was expensive though.

Default Sea Lions

The Sea Lions on the pier at Fisherman's Wharf. I never got the attraction of those smelly animals and I liked the Wharf much better when they weren't there. Guess it's a kid thing.

Just in case you didn't know, they never actually renamed that sewage plant after George Bush. It was proposed, but didn't pass.

It'll always be the George W to me, as long as it smells
