I disagree man. Sure, it's sad that a good chunk of tourists associate Fisherman's Wharf as their quintessential SF memory but if you walk the trail it has one of the best views of the bay and the surrounding regions.

There are 1,000 places I would recommend over the Wharf but it's still a cool place.

The stupid bridge is actually quite majestic, historically significant, a jewel among fabulous scenery, and gets one from SF to wine/trees and back.

Its a red bridge. Only in an ultrafeminin cultured city like SF will such a thing thing be as significant as it is.

This seems to suggest you would rather insist on a more "manly" bridge. Which actually might well please many of the SF denizens who prefer things tilted that way.

Watch a documentary about the Golden Gate and the challenges that arose while it was being built. Awe-inspiring.

Default Silicon Valley

The notion that there is anything worth venturing to in Silicon Valley.

Fisherman's wharf, no doubt. It's a grotesque train wreck of crappy chain restaurants and hokey "I love SF" t shirt stores. No self - respecting local goes there. Joe's Crab Shack does not have the same kind of appeal here as it might in Illinois.
