My son, who just returned from 8 weeks in Shanghai and I, who have spent a fair amount of time in the Sichuan Province, both enjoy the hardcore Chinese food. The moo goo gai pan stuff just doesn't cut if for us. Can anyone recommend a Chinese restaurant in the Sarasota area that has hardcore Chinese food? A place where we might be the only meiguoren? It doesn't have to be fancy, or even clean. Even a little hole in the wall is fine.

I don't think there is enough Chinese people in Sarasota to have a chinese resteraunt where you are the only 'meiguoren' there, too spread out. Sarasota doesn't have a Little China or anything like that. And yes, I know what a meiguoren is. There are chineses resteraunts that are better than others though, maybe not as authentic as you want.

I don't know about one in Sarasota but I can tell you "Nam Fongs" in Bradenton is the best of the best Chinese Restaurant I've found in the area.
It's a small sit down restaurant that is always busy.

Having lived in the Bradenton area since 1991 and coming from eating fantastic chinese in NJ & NYC, I have YET to find it either in SRQ or Bradenton. What a shame.

I'm curious Ladywithafan, did you ever try "Nam Fongs" when you were in Bradenton? I love it and so do a lot of people. It's always packed.
I'm originally from upstate N.Y. and I haven't found a N.Y. pizza here either.
There is a place in Englewood but that's an hour drive one way
