I'm all for smaller portions just don't make the portions smaller and charge me the same price as I've noticed at some restaurants or else raise the price and charge smaller portions.
That's what happens, though. A pound of coffee is 14 oz., a 1/2 gallon of ice cream is 3 pints. And so on. Manufacturers, and most restaurants for that matter, are aiming at a price point. It's a balancing act.

Agreed. This was not a restaurant, and I imagine they charge per head for business events such as the one I attended, but I am hoping someone noticed that barely anyone finished their entire meal. Pare it down.
We went out for dinner a few days ago with our daughter and son-in-law in their town. I was absolutely thrilled when I saw that every main entree was offered in 2 sizes: the regular size and a small size. I ordered the small size. It was the perfect serving size: a single chicken breast and a right sized amount of pasta. I wish more restaurants would offer this option or smaller sizes.
Most entrees seemed to be about $6-7 less. That seemed about right to me. I think my entree was $17 (very reasonable IMHO) I guess to get what would have been 2 meals for me for $6 more makes sense. It happened that we weren't going to be near a fridge for hours.

That seems reasonable. Often I see the smaller portion just a buck or two less.
Just a thought...Perhaps we should get in the habit of negotiating prices and discounts for all our our purchases; groceries, restaurant meals, all the things that currently are considered as 'take it or leave it' pricing.

We negotiate every day.
If you approve of the pricing you purchase it.
If you do not approve of the pricing, you do not purchase it.

Oh god, no. Lines are long enough as it is, plus cashiers have no powers to do that.
Do you really want to take the time to hunt down the one person who could negotiate your items, and then haggle over every one?
The other day I got fliers in the mail from a whole host of fast-food establishments it's been a while since they sent out coupons prob not since the pandemic.
You can tell they aren't confident with the prices they set if they have to subsidize by sending out coupons every week.
