But, just out of curiosity, what is the downtown like, and is the golfing really as great as the brochures make it out to be?
Golfing is great. Downtown ok. ITS HOT THERE... nice hiking/biking but not if it's hot.

St. George is a pretty cool town to visit and live in. It all depends upon who you are. If you like to play golf, the courses are amazing and inexpensive. The scenery is so amazing that sometimes it seems like it could be fake. It is unbelievable. If you like outdoor activities there are literally unlimited options for mountain biking, hiking, boating, off road travel, sand dunes, atv parks, motorcycle trails, camping etc. The Trail Lawyer must actually be a real lawyer because he is full of s--t about the downtown St. George. They have one of the nicest downtowns I have ever seen. Very clean, incredible town center with fountains being fed by a natural creek that runs all the way through downtown. There are many businesses in this downtown area but admittedly it is not focused onn shopping. They have concerts in the park center all summer and movie night every 3rd Saturday. There are tons of dining spots and plenty of places to get a drink.

The town in general is very clean and very attractive. The city owns its own power and water. It rakes in tons of dough and unlike California they manage the money very well. Utility rates are laughable and all the extra money they bring in goes directly to building trails, parks, recreation and cultural centers, landscaping medians, building new roads, schools and so on.

Well, that all sounds pretty positive. Thanks.

It sounds like paradise for someone who loves the outdoors, and the city itself sounds pretty nice, too. It would be an awesome place to live if you like Vegas bu don't want to deal with all of it's problems, I think. (only a 2 hour drive?)

Anyways, would you or anyone else have any pictures of the Town Center? I have heard good things about it, but can't find any picture of it.

dont know if you made your trip yet but if you find yourself with a few hours take I15 through St George and and go into AZ and it goes through the Virgin River Gorge. It truly makes you feel how small we really are and friends who come out to visit us are truly taken away by it.

I just have to pop in and say again that St. George is an awesome place. I don't think some of you have really spent any amount of time here or you wouldn't have missed the stuff you did.

St. George has a very nice downtown with a great historic district. The town square is new, being dedicated in October of last year. The St. George Tabernacle is right next to the town square and definitely worth a visit. The LDS temple is just a few blocks away and is one of the few temples with a visitor's center. There is the Dinosaur Museum at Johnson Farm, where they guy that owned the property was out working his fields one day and came across some dinosaur fossils and other stuff of the like. It's very interesting and opened up a lot of new theories about dinosaurs.

There is also the Rosenbruch Wildlife Museum at The Dixie Center. The guy that owns that went on who knows how many safari's and brought back all this big game and opened a museum. There is Tuacahn out in Ivins, Kayenta which is a neat artists community. You can hike in the red rock bluffs overlooking St. George. Snow Canyon State Park is just outside of St. George which is very pretty. Washington City just opened a new Aquatic Center with all kinds of neat stuff that is very popular...a lazy river, water slides, etc. Not to mention the golfing. There is lots of shopping, not as much as say, Vegas, but for our little corner of the desert it does pretty good.

There really is a lot to do here you just have to know where to look, or, in this instance, who to ask.
