Well, it may be a triple homicide, not like a trend, I truly believe San Jose won't have more murder than SF at the end of the year.

The safest place is the northwest, followed by the midwest closely followed by the northeast... Then the south is the most violent one... Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, New Orleans, Memphis.. are not safe city and all are in the south
Although the South is more dangerous you have to realize certain cities pull the rate for the entire South up.
Also you forgot arguably the safest city in America El Paso is in a southern state and is conservative, we also have Austin which is only liberal by Texas standards and decently conservative. Plus out of all the cities you mentioned...
San Antonio is only barely above National Average by 1 or 2 murders per 100,000.

Dallas and Houston are above average but not really dangerous

New Orleans.
The South isn't actually considerably more dangerous it is just that in Louisiana half the states murders occur in Baton Rouge and New Orleans but their only 1/10th of the population. Same thing happens in other southern states.

We can say the exact same thing about the Northeast..., the sousthwest, the midwest and the northwest...
Remove Philly and DC and Bmore (where pretty much all the high murder rates are) and the northeast become safer... You can not say "remove this place and we are safer" because by doing so, the northeast will become way safer... New england is one of the US safest region... Remove Brockton, Springfield and it get way safer... But the thing is, Brockton and Springfield are in the new england region as much as Atl, NOLA, Baton rouge... are in the south and you can not remove them

Chicago...
2016 Stats | Chicago Murder, Crime & Mayhem | HeyJackass!

So far 46 homicides (45 by gun) and 252 people shot. This is with 6 days in single digits or colder and only 2 days when the high or low didn't get below freezing. Just wait until it gets warm...

46 murders in 25 days and the mayor does not say a thing, the community, the people... all silent... 1 guy who apparently beat an innocent man senseless get killed by the police... all protesters arise... while the police shooting is wrong, but so are 46 lives lost...

That confirm what I said earlier... the northeast is the safest region while the south is the most violent... And the south has the loosest gun laws... just saying

Alaska and Arizona are generally considered best but a lot of states are catching up. You can carry concealed at colleges in Utah. Vermont's good too.

I live in Maine and as of a law passed in October we don't even need a permit to carry concealed anymore:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/...b028dd7ea6c558
"A law effective Thursday allows people in the state of Maine to carry concealed handguns without a permit. The new statute, which applies to both residents and non-residents ages 21 and over, means that anyone not otherwise banned from carrying a firearm can carry a concealed handgun within state borders. Keeping a loaded pistol or revolver inside a motor vehicle is allowed as well. Adults ages 18-20 who are on active military duty, or who have been honorably discharged from the military, are also included."
