Ricky Gervais: Top 10 stupid things Americans say to Brits - Telegraph

Ricky Gervais started this and I thought I would carry it on because I have now lived in the US for seven years and have some of my own...

I was once asked if I was from London or England? "EH?" (I thought)

I was in Iowa once and a woman asked if I knew some Brit that She knew...WELL - I said - ....it's only a country of 60 million...let me see...

The one that totally blew my mind was when I was asked "how long it takes the greyhound to get to London"

Someone asked me if we had TVs and indoor bathrooms in Scotland, along with "How long did it take you to learn English you have a lovely accent where is that from?". I was either gonna die with embarrassment for them or slap them. People like that seriously need to get an education. It happened in the deep south.

I mean come on!

9. Do you know the Queen?
People have asked my husband that but they're obviously joking! lol

And to be fair, some of the accents here can be difficult to understand, I don't think that makes me stupid.

But the one I seem to notice is that people tend to assume I live in London when they hear I live in England. A few times, even after I tell people that I live in Manchester, they seem to forget and will later revert back to thinking I live in London.

My kids are in school in the USA and have often been asked by classmates where their accent is from.

On replying "From England" they have received the following response on at least half a dozen occasions....

"Really, England? What language do they speak there?"

Funny comments I have heard from Brits:

There are 53 states;

I've been to LA, and California;

Florida is a 15 hr flight, and Hawaii is only 12 hrs;

I have a week off.. I may visit New York, then drive to California, Vegas, and Florida;

What continent is America in?

etc etc etc etc etc

I've got one of those too.

"I thought all Americans walked around carrying guns with them" - and he was serious, not joking

I'm not British or American, but the one i can't get over is when Americans say "we saved your ass in world war 2."
