" Thundersnow now being reported near Philly !! Check out the latest lightning map... "
That image is so depressing in so many ways. It's a common sight: snow on the northwest side of a line that is on an approximately 45 degree angle and stretches from Baltimore to NYC, following the Delaware River until it hits Mercer County. Of course my area gets the short end of the stick with this setup.
I still find it amazing how it can snow heavily at like 36F and 37F up there. Down here, even when it is closer to freezing, the precip will be all rain. Heck, I'd say freezing rain is much more common down here than snow is.

It was around 33F here last I checked. It can snow if it's above freezing, but it requires low enough relative humidity.
And below freezing temps at least above 2500 feet. Yeah, that "angle" of rain/snow line is classic and irriating.
After 0.45" of rain 7-11am. 0.10" of potpourri 11-12:30..we finally have stickage here. Temp 41F to 34° last couple hours..
Those little ice cubes above finally cooling the atmosphere down enough.
That coating you have is just about what we have as well. But it fell more than an hour ago. Some light flurries mixing in, but not heavy enough for any additional accumulation at this time.
The forecast still calls for 1 inch. I hope to see it.
So, will the snow stick around for 24+ hours. I very excited ?
