Yup, I noticed that too and some were wondering why I was getting excited over the max temps from a week ago. . Not extreme for too many but still I knew would be interesting and same temps as early April.

Here are the Minimum & Maximum temps in the Northeast today.

Burlington normal max is 59!
Syracuse 59 is the normal max so they were 21 below normal with the max only 8 below with the low.

Boston normal max is 64. They were 18 below normal with the max

Buffalo 19 below normal with the max

Bridgeport 13 below normal with the max
Windsor Locks 18 below normal with the max. only 5 below with the low.

I think it's the heavy cloud cover, prevents any warm-up, but you're not going to get impressive cold nights with clouds. Wind won't be calm, too which prevents radiational cooling.

For Berlin, NH coldest recorded max on today (April 24th) is 28°F, but for April 23rd it's 35°F. Normal high is 57°F today there. When I was in the Whites just over two weeks ago, valley were in the upper 30s, but the summit was in the upper 20s, though cooled a bit late afternoon. It was a very gentle temperature profile with height.

Berlin, NH new motto should be "colder than Scandinavia."

It's colder than Stockholm by mean, about the same as Oslo. Here's Berlin [top left corner] from Mt. Adams, late September. Was in the mid 80s there that day.

.
Yes and no.. There was full sun in the mid atlantic yet max was only 50s so it wasn't clouds for them.

Scranton PA 14 below normal stayed in 40s and was full sun after lunch.

With ULLs there's always clouds which is what was known hence my call for more then 5-10 below normal during the day. Yeah, clouds did help but wasn't the sole reason....see below.

NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE TAUNTON MA
254 PM EDT FRI APR 24 2015

SATURDAY TEMPS AT 850 MB ARE FORECAST AROUND -2C WHICH SUPPORTS MAX SFC TEMPS IN THE 50S.

850 temps were cold which was also why we didn't warm up.
