Ok,I just checked Hampstead and we are down to 31 years out of 56 that have seen their first 20C either in March or April.Time series begin in 1960.Now I am intrigued as to what the result would be if we had a longer time series.
Hampstead is the coldest of London's stations due to the elevation there. If you use Heathrow, Kew, London Weather Centre or St James's Park, you'll get most first 20c days in April, with a few in March, and fewer in May. The 50s and 60s were probably the 2 coldest decades of the 20th century, and skew the averages somewhat. The 2nd half of the 19th century and early 20th century had similar or warmer springs, compared to the 81-10 average.
I don't know what it is you're trying to prove, exactly?

St.Jame's Park,London weather centre and Kew unfortunately are not in the ECAD database.Could you provide me with a verifiable source that shows these stations with longer time-series having achieved their first 20C in March or April?
My understanding both from Heathrow and Hampstead is that the furthest back we go the less the chances we get a 20C during April or indeed March.

Longer range forecast look good for you. Above average to at least average conditions.
It's about time we had a good May. Even the ones with average temps have been wetter and cloudier than normal in recent years. It's almost as bad as August.
