Wow. All these compasionate people hear the real truth and call you names, press the ignore button on you, and say you have no empathy. Sucks being right, doesn't it?
What are you babbling about? First of all, I never called him names (although I can't speak for anyone else)... I just let him know how hurtful his words were, and I think we're all in agreement on that. Not once did I say he was a bad person, in fact I have sympathy and compassion for him to some degree. But nobody gets to make cruel comments about my friends, and expect me to not call them out for it.
As for putting him on ignore, that's actually the mature thing to do - keeps us from arguing further, and reduces the temptation to respond & say something really nasty. If this weren't a moderated "PG-16" site, I'd be less hesitant to read his comments and respond as I see fit. Finally, what about his comments were "the truth?" Do you also believe cancer can be cured by positive thinking? I thought only religious zealots were drinking that Kool-Aid, LOL.
Unless there's a button I'm not aware of, you have to go into "my settings"... select "edit ignore list" from settings & options, and manually enter the user's name.
If you're so smart TKramar, why don't you learn a trade? Then you would be able to do blue collar physical work, but you would make more money.
And lets face it, at some point in your life you've benefited from someone that works behind a desk. You've obviously read a book before. The author that wrote whatever book(s) you read sat down behind a desk to type that story. And they got paid for the book.
Just because someone has a white collar desk job doesn't mean they sit around doing nothing and contribute nothing to society.

Exactly! He obviously loves his computer and internet... who exactly does he think developed those for him, and how? I bet it wasn't a warehouse worker, who was moving boxes around while simultaneously developing networks & microchips.
Not to mention, "intellectual job" doesn't always equal "desk job." My profession is definitely intellectual in nature, but I never get to relax at a desk all day! The only desk I typically sit at is a reference desk, where I'm fielding questions from the public & running around to gather materials for them. I can literally go an entire shift without sitting for more than 5-10 minutes, and we're also frequently doing physical work... pushing books on carts, weeding shelves, sorting/moving boxes of donations & new acquisitions, even cleaning when I worked in a small branch. I would often go home sore after work, sometimes even cut-up & bruised from opening those darned acquisition boxes. So just because you're using your brain, that doesn't mean you aren't ALSO using your body.
Kicking someone when they're down. Now that's class.
For those who are inclined to bash the unemployed, even people at the conservative think-tank American Enterprise Institute realize there is a crisis and that we need to rethink our way of doing things. You know it's bad when conservatives point to the German way of doing things as a potential answer. (OMG! Germany! With it's OMG "socialist" tendencies! )
So, you might want to just lay off the people who have been struggling for a year, maybe close to two now. I'm seeing what people in my family are going through and those of you who bash the unemployed have NO CLUE about how awful and out of touch you really sound.
