Most places it is, for good reason. But when you just started many places will can you for it. That, sadly, it not uncommon. Missing any time during the probationary period and you're history.
I don't understand why some people love to brag about how they come in to work no matter how sick they are. It's not a badge of pride, it's an incredibly inconsiderate thing to do to other people -- and if you really are that sick, it's not helping you get better any faster, anyway.
OP, I feel like most reasonable companies would not want you coming in with the flu, regardless of how long you've worked there. I hope you feel better soon!

Companies like this deserve to lose productivity and people, and people who come to work sick when they don't have to, deserve a nice swift kick in the a%%.
I don't understand the whole "come to work hell or highwater" mentality some employers have. If you're sick you should stay if not for your own well being, then to keep others from getting sick. They don't want you coming around my work sick, they'd rather you not get clients or other workers sick.
If they give you grief for being sick and not wanting to come in with a fever, you probably don't want to work there.

Are you going to step up and cover the rent/mortgage? Are the (former) co-workers?
I hate companies that are like this, but sadly they exist, and with little worker protection in this country (none during a probationary period) one has little choice.
OP, I hope your boss understands. We can't help when we get sick. Stay home and rest so you feel better and then you can show them it really was an isolated incident by not missing anymore work for awhile.
People who are sick should stay home. How productive are you really being anyway when you come in sick?
Drag yourself in, sit there, look sick as a dog, until they send you home.
As unfortunate as it is, this is excellent advice!
