It doesn't matter. Aside from flinging vulgarities at your boss or your coworkers, none of this nonsense about whether you're polite or not matters. What matters is how you do your job.

I say "sure" all the time to my coworkers, boss, the CEO. Sometimes, if I'm busy or preoccupied, I'll say it without conviction. They don't care. They just want me to get things done.

Everybody needs to be treated equally. There's no reason to give favoritism to your boss or the CEO.

The trouble with texts (and emails) is that the recipient can mis-interpret the intent or tone of how the writer meant for it to be read. And then, a silly thing like "Don't use the word 'Sure' around me" starts.

However, I'd just let it slide and just not say "Sure" to this person anymore AND avoid texting if at all possible. This way there's less chance of my being reprimanded for this petty stuff.

She sits in her office and listens to me making my calls. She than picks apart the call and tells me I talked too fast, I should have used this word or that word, etc. The listener on the other end of the call hear and understand me fine. She's a whack job.

Just out of curiosity: is she the same one who told you to always ask the bosses if they'd like you to pick food up for them during your own lunch hour?

Does this person have a history of having trouble holding on to administrative staff? OR, are you replacing someone she had been working with for years, and now she wants you to be just like the person she replaced? Did she even have a hand in choosing you in the first place, or where you assigned to her by HR, and she's not happy with their choice?

Your posts describe A LOT of micromanaging. The question is, is this just how she is or is something specific driving her to act this way? And when she tells you these things, is it in a pleasant way or more aggressively?

Yes. Last week she told me she didn't like my handshake, and made me do a fake me and greet with her to shake her hand the "right" way. 😩

The last girl was here a year. She quit because she moved out of state. I think she was a pet to this woman - she thinks highly of the last assistant. I think she wants me to be a clone.

No HR dept - very small office. I get the feeling they had a lot of turn over before the last girl.
