I'm in my second week of working from home (office is in Seattle) and of the people I manage only two are still going in to the office. We had our weekly meeting by Skype this morning and it worked well. I do have to go in next week to train a new person, then she will most likely work from home too.
Higher paid people who can telecommute and such are going to be much better off than lower paid people who are more likely to become infected or completely out of work.
Boy, I sure hope so because I have MAJOR anxiety about my position. We can telecommute easily and still do 100% of our jobs remotely but I can foresee a scenario where they cut back on positions fairly quickly. I'm in financial services, btw.
I’m in healthcare IT for a large healthcare system and we aren’t even wfh yet even though we can do 100% of our jobs from home. We are still on our one day a week wfh schedule with exceptions being made if you have kids home but you’re still expected to trade off with spouses and come in when possible. Worse than that our cubes are less than 6 ft apart and we are having meetings with more than 10 people on rooms that make it impossible to social distance.
Luckily I have a kid who is too young to stay home alone so I’m only going in 2ish days a week for now but others aren’t. You would think we would be the first to go fully remote since we have the ability to do so and the healthcare knowledge of what’s coming

Healthcare organizations should be on the frontlines of making prudent decisions. I'm in the same boat. THe fact that companies that have nothing to do with healthcare are letting staff WFH, but healthcare companies are not is just a horrible example to set.

There might be HIPAA restrictions for HIS. To let you WFH involves providing certifiably secure equipment and audits. It's not as simple as "just log in from your home PC", unfortunately.
Just started a new gig shortly after the COVID-19 biz started, and wondered what it would mean to me. Sure enough, I get an email, we start the work-from-home thing TOMORROW. That's the day before yesterday. Got myself all set up, and began. I live in SoCal, but am managed from the Texas office, so there's no FtoF at all, and working from home, you can't pop into someone's office with a quick question. Oh, well, this is the new reality.
