I have always noticed the similarities between the Philippines and Mexico...

If it wasn't for the adoption of English instead of Spanish as "lingua franca" after World War 2, the Philippines today would be like a piece of Latin America in Asia...

The Philippines IS like a piece of Latin America in Asia. It always has been and always will be. Just saying.

Spanish still has recognition in Philippines and it's taught in instruction of schools and efforts are being made to maintain it as official language. Spanish was the official language until 1987.

If Puerto Rico got rid of the Spanish language as one of the official languages, would you still consider it to be part of Latin America?

De Colores

Quote:
"De colores" ([Made] of Colors) is a traditional folk song that is well known throughout the Spanish-speaking world[need quotation to verify]. It is widely used as a song in the Roman Catholic Cursillo movement and related communities such as the Great Banquet, Chrysalis Flight, Tres Dias and Walk to Emmaus. It is also associated with the United Farm Workers union, as one of the most commonly heard songs sung during rallies.[1]
^This song was introduced to all Spanish Colonies and that includes Philippines
I know this song.

Filipino 'De Colores' sang by Pauline Sevilla

^She's from Davao City, She sang a lot of Cursillo songs
including the Mañanita but she sang in English.

^Philippines the English version of 'Las Mañanitas'

'Las Mañanitas', Mexican Birthday Song
